Hi all,
Land Rover have recently recalled Discoveries and Range Rovers fitted with a quick release towbar 2005 - 2015 models - as the towbars are unsafe and need to be changed. We recognised that ours was an accident waiting to happen last year and paid for the replacement at our local garage (not a dealer). I have today sent a letter to Land Rover explaining this and am hoping for a partial reimbursement of my costs.
Am I being optimistic??? :)

We haven't done any Range Rovers but have checked plenty of Disco's, we did 4 this morning. They don't all get new tow bars, if they pass the test we do then they are left as is. if they are loose we fit a new fixed tow bar and if the crossmember is worn we fit a new crossmember though we have only done one.. A customer came in a few weeks ago with a none genuin bar fitted and LR wouldn't pay for that, worth asking though.

I'd try to get it off. Not reliable to leave on. Had potentially disastrous experience doing that with one on a galaxy. It eventually came apart towing a trailer in a lane in wales, the whole thing came away including the safety wire. Luckily the trailer just sailed into the ditch.
