I love the look of them! few years back I wasn't a fan and I liked the flat bonnet like my td5 has, but since parking next to a puma at Tesco it's changed my mind. now I need one.

Question is what one!? The price vary in a number of materials. Iv found a few cheaper fibre glass ones but was wondering how the fit is and how cheap they actually look when fitted or if they look sweet.

Andyone fitted one?

Hello ReeceKnight. I bought one recently from Masai and was very happy with it when it arrived. It was very well packaged and protected and, arrived here in Ireland surprisingly quickly.

They have two versions. One is a single skin model and the second a twin skin model, which has a second nicely fitted layer of material beneath the top, which is designed to add rigidity and strength.

The finished colour was black, which I think might be a gellcoat. It had always been my intention to have the bonnet sprayed in Santorini Black. When the bonnet was taken outside it was difficult to know if having the bonnet sprayed was worthwhile. There where one or two minor blemishes in the gellcoat, but other than that it was almost perfect.

However, and perhaps foolishly, I filled the small blemishes and had it professionally painted. It's difficult to know if the new finish was any better than the original gellcoat.

I have also soundproofed the lower side, on the kitchen table, and it is now ready to be fitted.

I don't have a garage and I am waiting for the good weather and an extra pair of hands to help me fit it. Once I have it fitted I will post some images so that you and any other interested members to judge for themselves.

I've got two one bought from Land rover main Dealers for £40 more than the Badly damaged one I had from a well known panel supplier, Second one was from a breakers But was a very good price

I just bought a brand-new (genuine) one, no need to worry about poor fit, iffy finish & quality etc.
Did some ringing around and you would be surprised at some of the discounts I was being offered, included delivery as well.

Yes, I'll let you know how I get on. However, I don't know when that will be 'cause I'm just home after being towed by a pal. Mt Td5 overheated and the engine cuts out. I can leave it to cool down and after thirty minutes or so the engine will start again and let me drive for a few yards and then cuts out again! It can't be much but it's a pain in the proverbial. :(. :(

What makes you put your money on the injector seals? I collected the car from the local mechanic today who put in a genuine LR thermostat and found two leeks in the coolant pipes that run to the fuel cooler. Paid the bill, delighted that it was small. Five mins latter on the way home engine cuts out again and would not restart!

The battery is also dead and beyond life, but when I tried to restart the engine I could hear a slight hissing sound coming from somewhere in the area by the fuel cooler. Could that have any relevance to the injector seals?

Appreciate your thoughts.

My cousin had the same problem about a month ago...

If you do injector seals make sure you remove all fuel from head before you begin or you risk causing serious damage

It's not a massive job should only take a hour

Really appreciate your response. I'm no mechanic and the job might be bigger for me ;) I'll look up the process and give it some more thought

Do you know if there are any special tools required to do this job? And, is your cousins a td5?

I have a Haynes manual, but it's about as much use as a chocolate toilet roll :D

Hi, what did you use for the soundproof Ingram?

That was meant to read what did you use for the soundproofing, I bought a 110 soundproofing sheet but despite the web site’s info it fits all Defenders except the Puma. Nobody seems to do a Puma bonnet kit.

Question is what one!?

Please be careful from whom and where you buy a Puma bonnet.

If you see a so called 'genuine new Puma bonnet/never been fitted' on various auction sites there could be a high possibly it has been stolen!

A new bonnet from LR comes in grey primer without hinges bonnet catch etc. So a painted one has been fitted, however under hinge block is just primer.

My mate has sold his Defender and has this spare bonnet etc should get alarm bells ringing as how many people have spare Puma bonnets that are new/unused/never fitted??

Yes a reputable 4x4 breaker might have genuine bonnets off a Defender which has ben rear ended and written off. Most Defenders which have been rolled or in front end collision and written off will have damaged bonnets.
