Are we all sitting comfortably... yes,ok I shall give the latest blurb. Got the Golden Girl back from a transmission chap who is Adam Ant that it is not a transmission problem. Apparently the valve body? was replaced during rebuild but they have now replaced 'full thing'? He is still saying look towards transfer box/ drive shafts.:rolleyes:
Others are still convinced it is a TC issue. Soooooo , she is going to Gibsons to check drive shafts/transfer box, to confirm, or deny, if those are the issue! The upside is, the RR shaped gap on my drive is presently filled with my RR :D
 
Good luck, i must admit, even with two of us and my mate being an excellent mechanic and a big lump, my transmission was pushing what we could do on my drive. I did just the transfer box on my own without a transmission jack and that was a real barstud !
Andy, just noticed this bit on a reread. How long did it take you?
 
The transmission I think was about a week to get it out, rebuild it and back in, maybe a bit longer as had to get the torque converter refurbished, the transfer box i did in a weekend i think but it was friggin harsh with just a trolley jack to lift it back in as the TB on its own is freakin heavy
 
With only one working arm, I think the TB is sounding like one of those jobs that the socket set will never see :(:D
 
Definitely not and there probably isn't anything wrong with the TB unless it's the motor, and i struggled like buggery even after enlisting the help of a neighbour to lift it back in.
 
Hopefully by next week I will be closer to an answer , on the cause of the vibration. It comes to something when the transmission guys says 'when you find the answer can you let us know, as we'll probably have others with the same issue'.
Still if I wanted an easy life I would'nt have bought a RR o_O
 
Just thinking of a laser thermometer i bought of fleabay,,,,,, is there such a thing as a point and squirt vibration detector?

Then i could spuriously offer to sort 'out of balance washing machines' to the single mums that smile oddly... a couple o' pairs of my drawers will even out the imbalance, i'm sure of it!

Ok , boys, girls , and others. It continues........ the judder, shudder or whatever word we're using this week , remains. So far she's had propshaft repaired, balanced, fitted. Followed by recon transmission with TC replaced. Then valve body replaced. Took her back to Caledonian transmissions where Craig fitted another transfer box with no change in judder. He has also now replaced the TC with yet another one and still no change. Going down to Gibsons on Saturday to try a different set of wheels.
I'm also going to mention tomcat's idea from the other thread, about the crankshaft damper. Anyone have any other thoughts on the subject?
