So basically from what I've observed, the oil gets down into the sump via the same holes that the pushrods are sent through?
Is it the rocker shaft that causes the oil to splash around everywhere then, because there can't be any crank case pressure considering I have honed out the cylinders and fitted new pistons. The oily mist that comes out of the filler cap (with the cap removed) when the engine is ticking over will not as such be forced down the breather pipe and into my air intake manifold then because it is nothing more than oil being splashed around by the rockers and not actually pressure trying to escape.
Think I've got that right have I not?

Crankcase pressure int necessarily caused by worn rings or bores. The pistons will displace as much volume on the down stroke as they do on the up stroke but cos the crankcase is bigger than the space above the pistons the pressure int owt like as great, this displaced air has to go somewhere which is why you have a breather tube on the filler cap. The oil in the rocker cover is pumped up from the sump an generally lubricates everything in there before draining back down the pushrod holes an a drain tube at the back of the block. Running in int as common as it used to be but I'd still take it steady fer a couple of hundred miles to let the new rings bed in.
but shirley the actual volume of yer sump dunt change. ah mean if one piston comes down pushing the air/fumes down then another piston is going up draggin air/fumes with it?
one reason 'running in ' int so common is because the manufactoring tolerences have gotteed smaller so they have a better 'fit' to begin with. not that this appllies to pos's bus.

effernink monsewer grunt, its bit another lovley day here with temperatures reaching quite high° for the time of year. we did have a slight south westerluy this afternoon but otherwise its bin a reet nice day

I tell you what, I'm really impressed with my engine following my refurb. I can pull up hills in fifth that I would have been struggling with in third and still have plenty of power to pull away. My engine must have been totally worn!
Will it improve further once the rings have bedded in a little?

im glad ur running better Pos. denis is running better with more power but nothing special getting up in fourth instead of dropping to third. im wondering if ive got another problem as well causing the lack in power.

I wouldn't start worrying about that, they do loose a lot of power on hills, and don't forget you were probably going up a steeper hill than me! I've just noticed a real improvement because it was so unbelievably worn before. It's quite responsive now (still absolutely nothing like as nippy as my Dads 1.4i Citroen ZX!). Have you filled your engine with running in oil?
