Well after 11 hours of driving around ive finally got me v8!
Thanks bencorkill! Was good to meet you and take the motor off your hands
Heres the pictures!
To say im as happy as a pig in **** might be a bit of an understatement!
Just needs a really good clean! Oh and a megasquirt kit fitted :biggrin1:
Plan of action now
Remove the v8 from the chassis
Remove the axles and whatever is attached (not alot)
Strip back the chassis and paint!
As far a i know the engine is sweet from the drive back, but if your gonna spend the £ on mega squirt i would rebuild it to maximise your gains, or do compression test and see where to go from there? im gonna start my rebuild next week and think i will be just as lost as you haha
Tis exactly my train of thought if im spending mega mullah on megasquirt may as well rebuild it whilst its out!
And fit the H180 camshafts from turner engineering
Well, my advice is DO EVERYTHING YOU CAN WHILST ITS OUT
IF THE ENGINE HAS DONE MORE THAN 50k IT WANTS A NEW CAM, IF YOU CAN AFFORD AN UPGRADE CAM THEN PLEASE FIT ONE, IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD A STANDARD CAM THEN PLEASE #### OFF WHY HAVE YOU GOT A V8?!!!?!
But yeah basically it'll never be as easy as this again mate and I know from the thousands of hours, the greasy fingernails, the aching hands and the smoking wallet that its far preferable to live like a tramp for a few months than to live like a slave to your car for a few years after you didn't fix everything whilst you could.
Absolute ####ing Godspeed to you mate because you appear to be going about this the right way so far but yes you will need all the help and reassurance you can get!
Good news that you are doing a rebuild! want my advice get it stripped n send of to be cleaned. You can do it yourself but its a long ass job and a pita. Oh and keep the con rod caps together! take lots of pics while stripping lol
Hello again chaps and chapettes.
Just for those of you who dont venture into the v8 section of the forum ive started a new thread for the engine build. Would rather keep engine related things separate. Especially as its getting megasquirted.
Anyways made some progress today removed the front axle from the chassis and started stripping it down ready for a refurb.
Radius arms, spring seats, panhard rod, calipers and track rod have been removed ready for a clean up and paint.
The rest is currently sat in the garage as im draining the oil at the minute ready to strip the rest down.
More to follow.......
You gonna do the wheel bearings? front right one defiantly has serious play in it! may just need tightening up
Any chance of pics of the axle refurb Rob. I got to sort mine before it goes back on the road..
I will be taking plenty of pictures including the strip down of the axles and of the rebuild.
