What they like on road as that where I spend most of me time. Do they scrub to nowt quickly or do they hold up like the grabbers?

Dakar is good all rounder, slight howl at speed(well, as fast as I can go:D). Special track is a bit more aggressive for mud, good off road but slightly noisier and less road friendly.
They probably do an AT as well, dunno what theyre called.

at are better snow, hard snow, ice that you get on roads. check copper site for the winter use, at has the edge on them. If you was just on farm fields with snow and mud then yes. not for the roads, they become snaky

Hi Thor,

So what are muddies like in teh snow?

They look cool, and look just right ?

Would they go straight on the 'standard' disco 300tdi 5 spoke alloys whose name escapes me. Also, I presume I wouldn't be needing to cut arches or any of that silliness.

I know nothing of Discos, but they are available in standard sizes for 90, so I don't think you would have a problem.

farm and snow fields good. On a snow packed or icey road not good as you got less rubber making contact with road surface. more tyre contacting the road = more traction. I have cooper ats and they do everything I want in the winter weather snow, icey, or dry. If things are to slippery then in goes 4x4 high and away we go. Usually limit myself to 70mph in them conditions. but I have been on sheet ice on a motor way at 15mph in 4x4 high when 2 wheel drives were either in the ditch or on the shoulders stopped

Anyone know of any tyre places in south wales that'd have insa dakars in stock or decently priced online send 'em on a wagon outfits? 60 quid a corner is hard to resist.

Can't remember what size I had on my Disco of top of my head but they were standard size and didn't need any mods...
I realise now that thats about as much use as tits on a fish... I'll go back to prophecying the weather..

Paddocks seem favourite at the mo. 70.80 a corner for 235/70 16s on most insas and the other chunkier ones are a few bob more.

Do I jump or try a few local boyos first. Fitting ain't an issue as mate is gaffer in local tyre outlet.

I had turbo dakars on my 300tdi disco, standard 5 spoke alloys 235/70/16 and did not interfere at all, held up well for mostly (all) road use

Now torn between dakars and special track at a few quid more. Most of my time is on road so my head is saying dakars but my inner idiot and the kids are saying special tracks.

Argh choices.

From the sounds of it dakars will do every thing you need. You will soon get bored of the special tracks if you do a lot of miles.

Worse winter yet On way hope everyone getting trucks ready. Completed box section sills on my disco this weekend, stone chipped entire floor undersealed underneath.doors back on now just abit of a fit up for mot saturday

do we take this as a precursor to cold weather
or take the weather warning with a pinch of salt :D

Warmer air holds more moisture, if the clouds stay the same then temp drops, we get snow, still predicting snow for Tuesday, should start to get colder tomorrow, enjoy today
