This threads got out of hand now ! next the whole of f**king eBay will be getting reported

The points system is to f*** anyway

It only count for engine, chassis , axels

An not body panels unless you take a defender body off an put a disco or RR one on

You can get let's say m reg 300 defender an put a 2012 tdci body on and no points will be lost because you can buy the parts new an then it's changing like for like therefore you have not altered the structure of the defender in anyway

Look carfully, ringer or private plates.

The video was uploaded in 2010. the tdci had only been out 3 years and parts were unheard of. I know. I was looking with the rest of the country.

If i had upgraded my 1995 defender to have tdci bonnet, bulkhead dash (and if you look carfully) gear levers, indicating the 6 speed box has also been fitted, the last thing id do is cover it in chequer plate and hand paint it matt black.

Sorry but that just looks nicked to me.

Land rover defender 300 tdi tdci dash automatic galvanised chassis fully rebuilt

so is this a ringger ??????

NO!!!!

just because its got newer parts on dont mean its stolen

Quite correct, where did all those late model parts come from though? I'm sure the seller there will have receipts for all the bits, most don't when you ask them though.

There's nowt wrong with uprating your truck with newer parts, it's just unfortunate that to an extent this is encouraging the theft of vehicles to be cut up for parts.

It says in the video description it has 28 days later written on the side of the truck. perhaps it was a promo for the film? or made for some zombie nut with more money than sense?

Could be.

Still think its dodgy though.

Impossible to tell for definate without a good look.

I only posted it because it just didnt ring true but its difficult to prove and thats probably why so many people do this ringing lark.
Theres a couple round here you would guess arn't what they claim to be but unless you get a really on the ball policeman stop it it'll never get discovered and people will always keep doing it because its easy.

Well in that case every Lanny owner is guilty of encouraging Lanny thefts coz every one want's cheep parts so are eBay an other sites also guilty for letting it go on

Send eBay an email asking the to shut up shop. Stops it all then

I tend to agree with some of the previous posts that this thread has lost its way a bit from the original intention.... So, just to try to get back to the main aim, AVCIS are seeking our help to point out PRIMARILY, ebay (or other) sales/auctions for sales of V5's with either No chassis or perhaps part of a chassis, or even a sale with a full chassis but with a comment that they will scrap the chassis if requested.

If there is sufficient info on the auction, AVCIS are getting the DVLA to put a 'flag' on the record so that when a change of owner request comes in, DVLA/AVCIS are alerted and can consider further action, pay a visit etc. I'm aware of one visit made by plod and also one 'Classic' that's been called in for an inspection by DVLA... So they are acting on our info.:)

What has also been thrown up on this thread, and indeed the same thread on LandyWatch, is that there are equally a number of complete vehicles with questionable identities and some that are registered with classic IDs to avoid paying road tax. In some ways, this has been a bit of a bonus for AVCIS/DVLA.

I've no idea how much resources plod are throwing at this but they do seem to take the info we send over seriously. Their focus seems to be more on the buyer, rather than the seller. For example, as has been mentioned, its fine to sell a complete chassis+V5, plod are interested to know what the buyers intentions are.

It's certainly not my, nor I'm sure anyones intention on here to f*ck up genuine sales but there seems to be a lot of uncertainty around some rebuild sales and I'd include myself in that too. All the info that goes over to AVCIS does have a qualification comment with it along the lines of 'blatent p*ss take' or 'Not sure about this one' etc etc. so they can make their own minds up whether they wish to pursue it or not. Where its not obvious, the comments are based on the general consensus of opinion of the forum. Plod are relying on the LR owning community to point them in the right direction.

So, all in all, please keep flagging up anything that looks suspicious but understand that not everything will get acted upon by AVCIS is they don't feel there is enough to act upon.

Very good points there Mr Monkey, i agree entirely, I've always assumed that AVCIS were merely putting a flag on the suspect ID's to see if they get registered again.

In reality, I think non of us have any illusions that this is going to turn the tide against land rover theft, obviously the organised criminal gangs which are involved in the theft of vehicles on an industrial scale aren't relying on getting ID's from ebay, but at least it feels like we're doing something, even if it is only putting the wind up a few people who are taking the **** with their 'tax free' defenders.

can i ask the question , when was it deemed NOT acceptable that a pre 72 vehicle had to be of the same chassis type as when produced to NOT be eligible for tax exemption ? , why i ask is i have spoken to several lr owners who have coil sprung tax exempt lr's , and have been pulled by the peelers and they are not breaking the "law".
