I must admit, going uphills is fine but downhills on ice is always nerve-wracking - if they break traction and 2.5 tonnes of RR start sliding, there's not much hope of getting it back!
Personally, it's been fine in 2nd or drive for all the uphills, but downhills I have stuck it in low range and mostly second so far, although would use 1st on anything particularly steep/icy!
