Unless you're ex-forces, in which case you get shafted at every turn. But when the UK pays around 75% tax, I've be happy if a few more pence were spent on pensions for everyone who has worked and paid stamp. Instead it seems to get thrown away. A GDP of 2.256t USD is no small figure (not far off of the French GDP). So how does the gov't manage to throw it all away? We have slightly less people in the UK than France, so punch for punch are near on equal. How does the UK mess up funding so badly compared to France?

Or is it quite grim for a fair few people in Franland just no one talks about it? Blacks living in poverty? Who cares, this is France. Poor people unable to afford medical treatment? Who cares, this is France.

The Mrs. & I are moving to NZ as soon as this car goes,

We will simply put: be £1,800 a week better off than we are here after paying for a comparable lifestyle. this is silly money & i'm sick of this place.

If i wasn't emotionally attached to this car i'd practically give it away, i sold my last one (similar but without the chrome) for £4k a few months ago.

@Myfirstl322
I couldn't give an ounce of ****e about the money i'm losing on it, I'm a human being and i have limits, and i find it disgusting that despite bidding £5,801 the guy can't honour it. I'm prepared to.

^ In response to my post above, of course Australia is the 6-12 month destination, a work contract is available in NZ, but with that said, we'd do better again in Aus than NZ.

The UK is becoming a global laughing stock, it means nothing to be from the UK anymore,

When i've satisfied foreign citizenship I'm going to (and i'll post proof "just because" ) cut my passport into peaces and post it back to buckingham palace with a brief note to ol' Lizzie, something along the lines of.. insert this where the sun does not shine.

Medicare is free in France if you are French and on no/low income. A lot less waste in the health service and on benefits. Much less foreign aid, bigger armed forces. My son was in the UK army, not got a pension yet.
No long term benefits here for most, no work, no income.

This is how it should be done.

See, that is where we went wrong, we down sized the armed forces while increase foreign aid. Funnily enough, I was told by a chap in ADSC that the reason for the downsizing was to reduce the UKs commitments to foreign wars/peace keeping/etc. yet the gov't were trying to throw us into one... Good work geniuses.

Getting shot of long term benefits would help, of the 300 people in my year at school with, only 15 of us have ended up working for a living. The rest have either never worked, or only worked part time while at college until they turned 18, at which point they started a career of claiming. As you can imagine for any career claimer, crime is a large part of their lives. It is 11 years since I finished school, no one should be allowed to claim for that amount of time.

Same story, i'm only young (23) & really only 5 years into my useful working life, i like to think i've accomplished some things. it does seem to me that 90% of my year at school now have children & elect not to work.. They instead receive a pittance each week from the state and feel like they're getting the "better end of the deal" < I think not!

The attitude of some of my generation towards work is disgraceful, I ceased full time employment at 20 after 3 Years, Since then: I've been out there on my own & if there's no food on the table, it's my fault. fortunately the past year I've been blessed:

But there were times a year or so ago when it got so bad we couldn't eat as in for a week at a time, but you make do, you find a way to stretch / get a few quid in whilst keeping your morals. I can sleep at night.

This is one of the ways this country is going downhill fast, good riddance.

I came from a poor family, so the prelude to my working life was how to cope on a small budget. It is only in recent years I've had the cash to do the things I wanted to do, but never has claiming benefits seemed like a viable option to me, even as a youngen when my cohorts were getting the latest and greatest gadgets and fashion due to their parents claiming everything they could did I think "I want to sign on when I get older."

But that appears to be an exception to the rule. However knowing I worked hard so I could buy a dream car, it is what lets me sleep easy, waking up and seeing a dream on the drive, not even Master Card could make that happen.

I will be staying with this ship however, if she sinks or not doesn't matter. A change of career means I'm tied in for at least 12 years so I'll be too old to ever get out... maybe when Scotland gets independence I can claim citizenship. :p

I too come from a relatively poor east end family, been working since I was 14 & a bit, claimed benifits once for a short time when the firm I worked for went bust, then started up on my own as I couldn't get a job.
The UK is shot, I left permanantly 13 years ago and would never live there again..
The waste in the UK Health service and the benefits system is incredible.
As for foreign aid, most of it ends up in the Swiss bank accounts of various despotic rulers or is used to fund the purchase of arms, good for economic growth don't you know!
Spend half of the foreign aid budget on the armed forces and we could take a lot out of the unemployment register. I'd also bring back National Service.
We have our very own tosser in charge now in the form of Hollande, makes Blair/Brown Cameron et al look like geniuses:mad:

Just a quick question , Have you ever actually served in the Armed Forces, Datatek?

Ha, no, they would not have me as I have had TB. I tried for the RAF after I was turned down for National Service as not fit. My son was a regular though. Some family members were in the military and died in WW1 & 2.

Didn't think so or you wouldn't wish the unwilling and unable on those of us who volunteered! As for the rest of your answer there are few of us who didn't lose family during WW1/2.

Addit:My dad had TB as a lad but he still Served. Who knows maybe he lied to get in?

But NS certainly sorted out some.

I am always amazed at how delusional people are about National Service and it's effect. Considering most were only 18 when forced to join it is only natural that some would change their ways but they are the ones who would have changed anyway. All it did was let those with 'interesting' ways continue their ways in a different environment. The only actual difference was they had to get up when told to!
Why the dregs of society are always wished on to our Armed Forces I will never understand. I am a professional soldier, I believe our Forces are what they are because we are all volunteers. I do not wish to serve beside people who don't want to be there/are forced to be there. So in an open plea to all, please stop wishing that layabouts, thieves, murderers , etc should be made to serve in the Forces. You don't want them , so why should we have them!

Gets off my soapbox and wanders off to make a coffee ;)

Getting back on track, Handscomb I have had a similar issue about someone bidding for something, then their dog dying so they no longer needed it. The difference is I had compassion and understood. If you don't like the prices offered on the bay , which you obviously don't or you'd have offered the car to the underbidder the first time, then take the webuy price and run. You've been shown by putting the veh up to the public what they'll pay. You keep saying you don't need the money, well then stop looking for more and pocket the best firm offer. For someone emigrating this week, to a job where you state you'll be over £56kpa better off, you're spending a lot of time :deadhorse:

Visa has been sat here waiting for weeks,

If you look through my posts you'll see that whilst i liked to moan about the price (who wouldn't) there was never an issue completing the deal on my end i offered to the top two underbidders on the first auction, neither replied.

and offered to the first underbidder on the second auction, who subsequently wanted to come and pay £700 less.

And because i said "better off" it does not I'll be poor sticking around here for a few weeks incase..

If the car doesn't go after this auction, i will just "take the wbac price"

also, I feel that either i've mislabeled the situation somewhere, or it's been misunderstood. I would glady accept a firm offer, if there was one currently outstanding.

You are welcome anytime bud, for a small donation at least, my account number is ************, mastercard is acceptable of course.;)

Sounds like a good deal.

Being a Southerner I imagine you still had options open to you someone living up this way never had. But you make the best of the cards you got dealt. I couldn't abandon the UK for France though, no matter how good it might look on paper, it is still France. If I was to go anywhere it'd be Canada, more than likely Alberta.

I don't know many people in the armed forces who'd agree with that. The Germans got rid of NS because they wanted a professional army and felt being forced to do 2 to 3 years doesn't get them a capable fighting force. The Yanks have a huge problem of gang violence, rapes, theft, etc. in their armed forces as they lowered the bar to allow more Americans to sign up (hard to get good men and women during times of war it seems). I wouldn't want to work in an environment like that. I doubt you would either.

No one ever suggests, oh you know those crooks, lets stick them all in the NHS. That'd set them on the right path, looking after those sick people will teach them compassion. Oh maybe even have national service in politics that'd... never mind, you wouldn't notice the difference there. :p

But I digress. The best way to get people off the sofa is to just cut benefits to long term claimers. You get dole for 1 year. At which point you have to hold down employment for 1 years (single employer, although agencies count) before you can claim again. After a year of working and lotsa money, I suspect few would give up work just to claim again. Problem solved. Only exception to the rules will be if the company you work for makes everyone redundant, at which point you get 6 months before benefits are cut.
