Aup, a bit cheeky being a newby but a question.......could a fuel pump in a P38 be replaced as a do it yourself, its my sons r r and there is no way he can afford the garage bills of 400 quid+.

Almost everything is possible as d.i.y. providing the confidence and information is there. Have a look on here for the Manual download link, read up the procedure and decide if you feel confident to do the job, if so, get stuck in!!!
 
thereare two pumps,one on engine, one in fuel tank,the one on th engine requires a special tool to remove/hold every thing in place and the one in the tank requires the tank out to replace.

I think what we need to know is, does the tank have to be removed in order to replace the pump and can it be done while on the ground, also is there a way to change the pump without taking the tank off.

To be fair not all jobs are possible by the diyer because of access and special tools but he's willing to have a go.

I have a manual for my bike but our website gives far more info to other users because we have had hands-on experiance.

Thanks stew.....does the rr have to be lifted to remove the tank?

Garage says its the pump thats gone , the one in the tank + the relay......sometimes there is a tip or trick that someone knows about, but I reckon from the response on here that it is a garage job, which we thought anyway, but, if you dont ask. However, it would have been better if someone had replied who had either tried to replace the pump or to say it was a defo garage job.

If anyone on here wants any info or advice about bikes in general or the gsx1400 in particular go onto our site and you will be inundated with replies even if you log in as a guest.

its not to bad to replace,it is a tank out job but ramps are a must.i done mine larst year it took about 2 hours all in with help from my mate and his 3 ton ramps.the only tip i can give is make sure the tank is near empty if you do try to do it.

It runs for about 30+ seconds then cuts out. We had the diagnostic check and thats what the garage came up with......the fuel pump overheating which in turn burnt the relay out.
