Hi H17N DJ....and hello board! Got a Rioja Red 99 4.6HSE V8 with 99K on the clock...and in very, very good condition. Owned for the last 7 years (as a 2nd car and done 24,000 in this time) and maintained regardless of cost by indi LR garage.....around 7k of receipts and FSH. Used in the winter, polished in the summer. Happy to keep her for the rest of her days but always curious to speak to an interested enthusiast. No mods apart from a stainless steel exhaust that burbles nicely!

Not too sure if this post should live in the For Sale section.......apologies if it breaks site rules.

Can't seem to insert photo's....only URL's....and the photo's aren't online. Help!

Blimey, i did that mileage last year:eek:

Many thanks for posting. Is the car running on LPG?

Hi H17N DJ - she's used for short runs getting the Mrs to and from work and I always preferred running the full-fat petrol version as opposed to LPG. She's averaging 13.3mph on an urban run.

GfromLeeds - I know but love is blind! The bulk of the receipts came from her 'tantrum years' but she's calmed down now. Spent £850 on a service ahead of a ticket a couple of years ago and another £600 on tyres 6 months ago. Apart from that, she's been as good as gold!

Think I might have spent about 6k in 9 years but that does include two engines :D and about 90k miles

Ah ok fair enough. I need a diesel I think or at a push an LPG converted one. What are the 4.0 V8's like with the lpg conversion?

I cant find the figures but there is little MPG difference between 4.0 & 4.6 (On long motorway runs i suspect the 4.6 would be better). The 4.6 has a stronger transmission & generally better specc'ed.

Looks tidy & HSE is good spec for a 4.0
Price seems ok but depends on what warranty you will get from the dealer. If you go for a look, take it for a lonnnnnnnggggg test drive & check EVERYTHING works. There's plenty of info on here about what to look for.
It's a V8 so check the cooling system :
Check expansion tank cap - check for any copper specs - K SEAL = Walk away
Check top hose is not rock hard after a run & up to full temp.
You want a nice smooth tickover, no lumpiness
Switch from LPG to petrol a few times, you shouldn't be able to tell any difference when cruising. Also check the installation is certificated.
Check the exhaust system - LPG eats standard systems PDQ

ummmmmm....ad describes body coloured bumpers? Never seen seat leather combination like that before - looks nice.
I hear the diesels can handle high miles if they are looked after but 55K is alot of mileage to be missing history or maintainance records for:eek: usually a sign of neglect.

Rang the guy about the diesel one and seems a bit dodgy to me. Corroded rear discs, from brake pads low and a slight leak in thr exhaust at the front but has a fresh mot! Also no service history AT ALL since 98K miles and its on 153K! Avoid guys!

Surprised it got through the MOT like that.
......like i said though ,neglected.
Keep looking fella, i looked at plenty before settling on mine. Even then, it's still a handfull

wouldnt but a car from anywhere in luton lol!

nice interior but its a diesel! only good for farmers, they are painfully slow, i would defo go v8 lpg. But take your time, i got lucky with mine but ha my fimgers burnt twice before

Looking at several is good advice, it lets you get a better feel for what they are like. I looked at some absolute horrors before buying mine, and to be fair it's not like mine came fault free.

The other annoyance is that the value of P38s has dropped to the level where they're for sale by characters you just wouldn't come across further up the automotive value food chain. All adds to the adventure of course. :)

The 4.0 V8 LPG converted one doesnt even have a log book. According to the seller it is a finance company repossession!!

For what it is worth I bought a second 4.6 hse with 160k on the clock for 1200 quid with a years mot and becm problems - which was in fact just an RF receiver - I was after the engine which had only done 6k miles but my point is that the suspension was good bushes had all been done body work was good but with some corrosion and my estimate was about 500 quid to get everything working so maybe it might be worth buying one with a few issues then as you fix them you will know what has been done it is the route I would take but may not suit everyone.

i payed £1050 for my 98 dse last november with a duff wheel bearing a leaky fuel pump and rough interior (worn front seats and scabby A/B/C pillers) but mint bodywork so far ive put around £350 worth of parts into it plus a weekend hear and there and shes all well
Well untill last weekend when the no4 fuel injector started leaking but thats life
But it shows that as long as you understand the fault it could be worth a gamble
Stands me at £1400 so far and its worth 2k+ all day long
