After having to change the batteries in my 2001 P38's Fob, the remote is no longer synced to the vehicle. After 3 weeks of hassle with my local LR Stealership they have finally conceeded that there is nothing they can do my only option is to buy a further 3 keys at a cost of £175 each and hope that one of them will sync to the vehicle!
They sold me a number 1 key which they said would sync straight away but unfortunately it won't. I have tried all the methods I can find to get it to sync but it just won't have it!
Apparently the correct key could be number 2,3 or 4 but I will have to order each one and hope one works.

Surely this can't be right? I have the EKA and can start it but getting very cheesed off with having to go through the procedure 5 times a day!

Any help would be gratefully appreciated I am at my wits end and missing my Classic!!

if the new key wont sync then its the wrong key i had a simlar issue i orderd a new key but the key blade was different and wouldnt unlock the car manually nor would it synce on the remote. they took a photo of my blade orderd another 1 heypresto all worked.
dealer said its common to get a wrong key. does the new key unlock via the lock?
its possible you may have had a becm replaced at some time but if you know the eka they should be able to access the car with diag and see whats going on.

or is this what a sync mate is for?

My dealer orderd 3 keys in the end and only charged me for 1 the 1st one was clearly the wrong key the 2nd one worked but way a key 1 and knocked my existing key out so they orderd a key 3.
iv got x2 new keys now but only paid for 1 i think you need to take this up with the dealers its their problem not yours if they sell you a key that wont work its down to them to sort it

Yes the key has the right blade will unlock the doors and start the engine with the EKA.

Seems like I've got a bad dealership then as they will issue me a refund for this key but not again if I order a different number and it doesn't work.
I had a printout from the BECM and believe it's the original one.
I have scanned the OBD port and it does store a constant fault code, P1667-

Anti theft alarm fault drive cycle

Which if I clear just comes straight back again.

It's had this code since I've owned it and never caused any problems. Do you think this would cause the non syncing?

I'm gonna go back to the dealers tomorrow and see what I can do. Thanks

PM Mozz Smith. When it comes to keys and syching he's the business.

You down in the SW?

Yeah down in south Somerset, it's Yeovil Land Rover that I've gone to for the keys but haven't proven very helpful just sold me the wrong key!

Will give him a PM thanks.

Ah. I'm down the Lizard so a bit too far.

Just out of interest, is the RF receiver connected?

It is connected the amplifier lead is disconnected though. Up until I went to change the batteries was all working fine.

The old fob had been superglued together and the pcb fell apart when I split it!

Try reconnecting and then synching. There are a few synch methods depending on the year of the vehicle. Should be in your handbook.

On my old diesel I unlock using the key then press unlock or lock using the key then press lock. Took a few goes when I got my new key. Think yours will synch as soon as you turn it in the ignition but not sure. Mozz will know or one of the others on here.

Being a 2001 all you need do is lock the car then turn the key to unlock the door and press then unlock button on the car at the same time, should be as simple as that

Ok thanks will do. Just been charging the battery and will give it another try.

The handbook just says insert the key into the barrel and it will sync. Unfortunately not in this case!

Good luck. Make sure the RF is all connected when you do.

Well unplugged the RF receiver and plugged back in. Batteries fully charged so reconnected.
Now that it's dark I've noticed that when I put the key in the barrel the LED is now flashing on the key. I'm gonna leave it in for 15 mins see if it's synced, fingers crossed!

I have tried syncing via the door lock with all combinations of methods I could find but general consensus is post 2000 there all synced via the ignition barrel.

Any LEDs flashing by the windscreen or on the top of the gear-selector on the auto?

No Luck, damn it.

The led on the dash only flashes when you lock it with the key in the door.

As soon as you put the key in the barrel the led on the key starts blinking and continues to do so.

LR have told me you can only have 4 keys for the car. Once a numbered key 1-4 has been coded to the car if you order another key of that number it will never recode!
As I don't know what number keys I had before I don't know what number I should order.
The new one I've bought that won't sync is a No 1 key. They've said the will refund me for this key and I should order another key, a No 2,3 or 4, pot luck which one will work but they won't refund if they don't!

That isn't true. Each key has a unique code with a rolling code on the end. With 2 keys of the same number one gets the rolling code incremented when in the ignition but the other doesn't so when you try to use the other one you have to resynch it first. So if 2 keys are the same then just keep one as backup.
