Hi Datatek

What does your equipment consist of? How do I get it, pay for it, and how idiot proof is the operator instruction with it? I presume I will need a laptop hooked up and configured to the software and stuff? I am not confident with this eas stuff yet, but I can follow instructions. It is plan B i need to back track if it goes belly up.

Best to send a pm to Datatek - go back to one of his posts and click on his name at the header and it will give you the option to private message.
The eas software is so simple even I can use it - and I'm a right thicko:scratching_chin:

Hi guys
Had a road to Damascus moment. I neede some info off the original owner of my Rangy. I phoned him and he told me he had replaced all 4 air bags last year!! He has looked aftervthis car like a baby.He then tells me it has had new windscreen fiited proffesionally. Then whoopee he had bought a brand new Hawkeye and plugged it in once. He still has it. He said I can have it!!!!!!! Whaaaaaat? I am off tonight to get a chat with the guynad get my Hawkeye. Is this thing any good? He is delighted someone has bought it who will look after it. Wish I had rang him 2 weeks ago. He said it was the height sensor. Does that beat cockmfighting or what. Any feedback on the Hawkeye guys. I mightvget a drive of this car soon. Least I don't have to fit new bags. He has a spare amplifier aswell. Alladins cave here I come.
cheers men.

Just got back from Damascus.
It gets better. Previous owner fitted a brand new air con radiator last year also but never gassed it yet. I was having trouble with the passenger side door switch on my consol panel and was gonna buy a new pad at £99 second hand. He tells me he checked it with the Hawkeye and he said it is not the switch or the door motor. Dunno what the issue is there then. Just as I was coming away he gave me a full set of spark plugs left from his service kit. All in all a profitable phone call. Lesson learned have a word with previous owner as soon as you can. Saved me a small fortune today.
Just gonna stay up all night trying to work out this Hawkeye thing. Seems complicated for a non techy like me.

Cheers men

Get it regassed at Kwiksh*t, if it does not work/leaks then they don't charge (just under £50). Best/only decent service they provide:)

Hawkeye is OK but not as good as Nanocom. Not sure if it can re-cal the suspension or do a re-sync although there have been recent updates that may have changed that.

Great advice, i was looking to book my aircon regas so will give Kwikfit a try.

Cheers Glyn

Was heading out to find a Kwikfit but noticed ATS just at the end of my road were advertising regas while you wait for £39, called in and they did it while i waited but the machine found a leak so they didnt charge.

Unfortunately got to try and find the leak now but at least it didnt cost anything to find out what the issue was.

Hi men
Just done eas test reset. Says RR signal incorrect. Then when I got back in car. Rangey pic had dissapeared and Air bag fault had appeared. Never been there before. Will the reset have now exposed the true fault an airbag issue? If so I presume it is the Rear Right as on daiagnostic or not. All well and good fancy diagnostic but when your crap at car maintenance im still unsure where to pinpoint a repair.
Ride height switch lights still all on. I lifted car to top height and measured all 4 corners.
Did that with all ride heights. Cos the lights dont flash i dunno where im sitting at each level. I made the start point top height then worked down and measured each corner. I thought I would get 4 different heights but getting to access never happened I think. Cos the measure ment between road and what I thought was access was the same. Any ideas men. I read something about the limit switch which does stop the car going from road to access or was I dreaming? The biggest discrepancy was full ride height on RR & LR an 1". Road were within 1/2" all round and Normal were FR 19" & FL 19" RR 19.5 & RL19.5. So not too bad. Access mmmm!
Getting close me thinks

Update gents.

Just got back in car. Rangy light back on and air bag light gone off. Ride height lights still on full.Good fun innit.
Gonna dive in and change ride height sensors now, but probably look at RR first as diagnostic said.
Question. How can rear right problem cause front right to be down? When I knocked engine off again, a single blast of released air was heard. Not alot short and sharp. The plot thickens again.

Anymore gems from you guys greatfully accepted. Best thing I did joining this web site. Refreshing to know there are other P38 loving mad men out there not just me. I might get a drive of my car soon.

RR fault is a height sensor as you say, front down could be a leak or a matter of calibration.
A blast of air from the valve block is normal when the compressor stops, it's so the compressor does not have to re-stat aginst the system pressure.

Hi Datatek
Thanks for the conformation. Would you go 2nd hand sensors in good nick or would I better biting the bullet and changing for new? I have read so much about height sensors that they rarely go wrong and a good clean sometimes does it. I have a couple of second hand front ones. I might just go for a couple of new one for the rear. How long should they take to replace? Is there a good idiot proof step by step guide anywhere. Tools, technique etc. Cos each time I seem to get going some little tiny thing scuppers it due to a clip or fastener I cant see and I end up breaking a corner off something. I am detemined that my local Sandbagger Landy garage is not getting my dosh without a fight this time.
Cheers

Second hand height sensors are a waste of time IMO, they will be near the end of their life.
As long as you leave a door or the tailgate open so the EAS does not know what you are doing you should have no problem. Just one connector, 2 bolts and the linkeage.
You may even get away without recalibrating if you are lucky:)

Thabks Datatek

After my reset on eas and the diagnostic saying RR incorrect signal. thought I would chance a ride with the soft fault showing and ride height switch all lit up. Fantastic to get a drive out in it!!!!! Took it easy but ran smoothly. Did about a mile then came back. When I got back the soft fault has gone off and the ride height switch has now only got one light on which is on lowest setting even though I am on normal I think. The ride height switch alters the height but does not move on the light system so I still dont know where I am sitting when I am in the car. I'm baffled now. The reset obviously has created an effect but another conundrum. Any ideas on that one Data? Or should I just get on with the sensor changes. I am learning so much from you guys and I really appreciate your patience and time.

Check the white connectors behind the kick panel in front of the door in the front passenger footwell, they corrode and the height switch goes through them.

Thanks again Data
Gonna have a look at that today. Just noticed a previous owner has fitted something on the kick panel in drivers side. Looks like a small speaker on a swivel bracket. About 4"square. No idea what that is. Also I
checked fuse box on becm and underneath the driver seat. There is a blade fuse 3amp in a holder underneath the becm. Are you aware of this being a standard piece of the loom? I am wndering if it had something to do with the unit in the foot well.
I took your advise and two new rear height sensors should be here tomoz. Get them fitted and start again.

I have non operational passenger window off the rocker switch on the consol pad. I asked the previous owner and he said they had checked it with the haweye and they can operate the window off the hawkeye handset. I was gonna buy a 2nd hand panel £99!! The guy told me he had changed it already (glad I spoke to him he has saved me diving in spending dosh) I am not sure about using the hawkeye operation yet so I dont know what I am looking for.( To be honest Data it is not a good operator instruction with the hawekye bit vague) I cant find anywhere a non mechanic idiot guide to using it.Anything else that might be worth testing for window op?. Off to strip footwell kick panel.

Appreciate your time.
Cheers mate genius!!

Hi Data

Checked white plugs behind kick panel as you suggested. The two white multi plugs look good. I left the panel off just incase I can do a test from there later. I read a thread somewhere advising to solder all the wires behind passenger side kick panel and drivers side straight through ( as this is where eas ecu cables run) and shrink some wire shrink tubing over it. Would that help? Still cant get a handle on the passenger widow issue though.

A few drops of water were on the carpet beside the kick panel. Had a think then removed the
Pollen filters from front scuttle. The sorbo rubber seals were dislodged and the filters had never been changed from new I dont think. I sorted the damaged sorbo seals and have ordered new pollen filters. The drops of water had bypassed the seals on pollen fltter and run down body frame inside. Learened more stuff today.

Car sitting only 5mm down on FR now, gonna try and recalibrate it tomoz. Ride height switch still ****ing about. I had access light on only while on Std. Then I had High and Roadlights on next. I press the switch and it reacts some time others not. Frustrating or what!! Under what conditions will the ride height switch function properly again Data.

Cheers again
