I ran for some time with the MAF disconnected, no faults reported, interesting, I'll have another look.

That's what i got. "Airflow fault" nothing more. If i get a chance will try it tomorrow and see if i can get it again. :)
 
with no maf you get an error code.
With not connected vacuum hose ot blocked egr valve it gives an error also. I saw this myself on Autodiagnos. Faultmate is giving NO error.

Think someone is playing with your head. With the MAF disconnected you will get an error message, possibly with the modulation valve disconnected you will get and error. But the ECU has no way of knowing that the vac pipe is disconnected. There is no code 33 for the BMW M51 EDC engine. If the Faultmate shows no error there is no error. You are chasing rainbows. Faultmate is the best diagnostic tool for the P38 by a very long way it will even do things the Landrover official tool will not do.

oh wammers i just send a privet message to datatek, showing faultmate is developed for the first diesels, but not working on the latest. If you are interted can send you to. or better we wait for the reaction from datatek.

However we still the key question. I have the latest diesel. And yes I have a serious real error 33......

I just ask if somebody knows it...... It looks like nobody has before. I will find it out. anyway the quick search until now is that i think it is related to egr. I i find I will post the result.

No airflow or IAT info on my Faultmate unless I'm going blind, nor do I get a fault for a disconnected MAF:confused:

Sorry to have to say this in this area but bollocks. It doesn't matter what diesel you have if it's EGR it's the same bloody ECU. Go to BMW there is NO code 33 listed for the M51 engine. I wash my hands of you.

How old is your Faultmate? My Faultmate Extreme works fine on my MY2000 diesel.
I was told, but have no evidence to support the statement, that the EDC for the MAF/EGR fitted version of the M51 was a stopgap update of the earlier non MAF/EGR EDC as the common rail M57 engine was already in place to replace the M51 and that no diagnostic data is available for MAF, IAT or EGR. Certainly I can see no airflow or EGR data on my Faultmate Extreme unless I have missed a page of live data information.

There is no airflow info or live IAT info shown on Nanocom either because airflow info is inconsequential to the operation of the engine other than for monitoring EGR gas mix. IAT is a preset to ensure EGR operation under all conditions.

Inlet air temperature is measured by a thermistor in the MAF assembly.
 
right. egr and maf is not supported on faultmate. See my list on the autodiagnos. I start to check the differences with the temp sensor. It looks like it is just a sensor tolerenance. But when you see for example the fuel is 18 degrees. faultmate gives -10 and autodiagnos gives the right temp (+/- some degrees). Then I find out that more figures presented by faultmate are wrong
May be we can make a new forum item of this point. In my opinion you should not advice people to but faultmate for the diesel

If your Nanocom gives an airflow fault, then it might be reasonable to draw the conclusion that it would appear as flash code 33 since there is no airflow fault listed in the flash codes. for you to get an airflow fault, there must be a code. Can you post a screen shot, I'd like to know why it doesn't appear on Faultmate.

I repeat, how old is your Faultmate and what firmware level is it running?

Only for the use of the ECU so it can accurately measure the volume of air going through the MAF. A MAF that doesn't know the temp of the air flowing through it cannot measure the mass. We have been here before. Maybe the IAT at the MAF is used as a computing factor by the ECU when comparing preset IAT and engine, fuel temps, to extrapolate actual IAT for fuelling, but as the air from the MAF goes through a turbo charger and an intercooler before it enters the cylinders, using MAF sensed air temp for fuelling would be like wearing an overcoat in St Ives because it's cold in John o Groats.

Not sure really, I did find some errors with temperature readings on Faultmate but a firmware update corrected them. Not used the Faultmate a lot but never had any reason to suspect most of the readings.

Yes same with Nanocom. Which reminds me must have a look for any updates, but i think most of the teething troubles were sorted pretty quickly. Last one i noticed on mine was when you were checking L and R temp control on Hevac the reaction was transposed. Left button moved right select and right button moved right select. Other than that not found a problem recently. But then again not used it much.
 
fauktmate gives a fault. but not supported, so invalid fault.
