Kwik fit filled mine not running. Aircon worked for about 5 minutes then stopped again.
Kwik fit said it must be leaking despite passing 45 minutes of vacuum without a hitch.
Bought a can from halfrauds and topped it off and it's still fine more than 1 year later.

I worked with a guy whose father did his National Service with Tommy Cooper in the Horse Guards , Patrick Moore was also in his barracks, that must have been fun.:D:D

Just had air con re gassed by kwikfit. No leaks system full of gas but wont get cold. They told me it could be the air con compressor , is this an expensive fix , I'm in Bristol
Mine was also vacced, leak tested and filled without the compressor running and I have also filled one with a DIY kit that did not require the compressor to run. Indeed the compressor will not run until there is enough pressure in the system.

You mean you have topped up with a DIY kit without compressor running. Filling from empty is quite a different matter. If you change a component there is a set amount of lube to inject depending on item changed. Then you can use the method i described. Anyway i will continue to do my own at least when i do it it works.

No, I filled after replacing the condenser. I intended it to be a short term fill with a professional refill when I was sure it was all working, 8 years on it's still working fine.

Must have been a warm day. There is a set procedure for filling aircon, that is what i have always used. I have all the gear to do it. Filling like that without vacing down is not the way as the system could be full of moist air. As i often say happy amatures playing. ;):D

I'd be interested to know how you get the compressor to run with no or low gas pressure.

You don't look at my explanation earlier.
I did, but that does not explain how you get the compressor to run before the system has sufficient pressure, and if the system reaches sufficient pressure for the compressor to activate the system is as good as full without the compressor running.

It doesn't it only runs when there is pressure. You obviously don't understand the procedure.
