Hi, my 1996 2.5 DSE RR gearbox lost drive, its a ZF4HP22 No 1043 010 728
are all ZF4HP22 RR gearboxes compatable with mine.
the gearbox has drive when cold but it goes again when car gets hot.
any ideas or compatable boxes:D:D:D

I believe the box is zf4hp24eh..

Just get a used one from a reputable place, or better still, get a zf4hp24 late model and slot it in place....

I may be wrong but wasn't the 24 the uprated one fitted to the 4.6, with the 22 fitted as standard to the Diesel and the 4.0 petrol?

Indeed, it is.

An if you do some searching you will get all the details needed to have a uprated transmission in place.

Or get a good refurbed gearbox.. Be wary of used boxes that arent refurbed..

First off, check the oil level, then drain a little off and look at the colour, black/burnt looking, box is probably toast, cherry red could be other things.
The ZF4HP24 was only ever fitted to the 4.6 V8 but the later 065 version is a straight swap for the HP22, you just swap the bell housing and use the diesel torque convertor. That's assuming your box is shot.
Only a box from a P38 is suitable without a lot of hassle.

drained some off its more like light red and clean, don't smell burnt in fact its same colour as the atf from new tin.
oil level was ok. my box is 4HP22, model 1043-010-728. can I use any range rover 4HP22 box with a torque converter

Any P38, but think about fitting a ZF4HP24, can be found on Ebay for between 100 and 250 pounds:)

Thanks Datatek !!
I was told that a ZF4HP24 wont fit on the 2.5 diesel dse. is there something I don't know. the ZF4HP24 is a better box but what will I need to fit it to mine as there are lots of HP24s on ebay

thanks JotaPê
yes I read that, very interesting too. do you have any idea what the diesel tailend housing is because I don't have a clue, cant find a 065 box nowhere but plenty early ones with 061 and 064. is this diesel tailend housing easy to fit, anyone got any ideas. pictures would be great
thanks
