My P38 diesel does about 17/18 mpg. I know this is too low and ws expecting 20-25mpg. Not sure what to change but thinking MAF sensor.
I know this is normally on the air intake but can someone tell me where it is on this and what it looks like.

Will replacing this make a difference to mpg? If not what else should I be looking at?

Runs fine other than this one issue which I really would like to do something about!! Has the hot start problem as well but have seen the relay and resistor fix for this.

Hey would be really interested in any answers to this too, it seems we have the same problem regarding fuel enonomy I have recently replaced my airfilter for a K&N thinking this may help but it hasnt:confused:

Have you guys cleaned out your intercoolers recently ?
If not try it, they are quite easy to remove, sloosh em with a couple of gallons of petrol a couple of times and see the difference.....

Not tried cleaning that. Will do and post results.
Might also explain the sluggish performance which I've just put down to it being a deisel.

The sluggish performance is down to an underpowered enginge in a 2.5 tonne car, it aint never going to fly but it should be drivable.Keep it well serviced and change those filters and oil before the service interval.

Well known this engine is underpowered... but a lot of people on this forum do seem to be producing better MPG than others so its always worth asking. I am having my engine stripped down on wednesday to check out a knocking noise and I have already asked for a intercooler flush so hopefully once this is done and my engine (hopefully) sounds better I will publish some results..... watch this space.....

just to add another jibber.. I have found my oil burner to be fairly sprightly really considering its just over 2t, so I have fingers crossed that when my intercooler is done ive got a scooby catcher.... ha ha ha :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D
