Howdy--We just recently purchased an '02 Freelander. About two weeks after purchase we we out and as we pulled into a parking lot the temp gauge spiked and steam was rolling out from under the hood. Replaced a radiator/heater hose. Now a couple of times the temp gauge has spiked and engine steam. After pulling off road for a few minutes, the temp drops and vehicle works fine. Also the overflow reservoir fills then lowers back down once engine cools off. Any ideas? anyone?

The expansion tank is ment to go up and down. But not to the extent of filling right up

There is also a freelander specific section ;)

What engine is it?
If it's a 1.8 or 2.5, it's a common problem.
If you get it fixed it can easily return.

Fix it or feck it - your choice. They aren't considered to be reliable vehicles.

Do you have both prop shafts?
Are all the tyres the same make and model?
Have yu checked the VCU yet?
Any clonks from the rear yet?
