I would go for it if you can find a good one. They are an excellent car, one of the best landrover have ever made.

Some big farming friends had a Td5 defender, and a Freelander 2. The def was so much trouble they sold it after a few years, and got a Land Cruiser.
But they still have the Freelander 2.
Finding one seems to be the difficulty!

Exactly. A sure sign that a car is good is if people hang on to them.

Or a sign that main dealers now don't touch them as they're too old? My local LR main dealer has just 1 FL2 on the forecourt hich is a 2014 HSE. They have 30 odd newer LRs on the forecourt. .

No idea about dealers, I have never bought a vehicle from one, I always go for private sales.

Disco Sports are OK, but the Freelander 2s have a really good rep, the DS are too new for the glitches to have been ironed out.

The LR approved used FlL2 are phasing out because of the flow of vehicles reducing. Look at how many of them were registered in bicester with OU, UV, OW, OE, OY etc at the start of the plate. These are mainly hire cars being returned or management company policy MCP vehicles returned. MCP ends after 1 year then they get another. All this provides the majority of second hand. That's now gone so it's only peeps chopping them in from long term lease or private return for another vehicle. Hence why there will be aalot of DS. Think it's up to 7 years they will sell on the approved used.

But did he say it would last that long?:) And guarantee that those years would be trouble free?
Should last if yer look after it. Yer can always get a bad one but on the whole parts peeps at main dealers admit the FL2 is the most reliable. They order the parts needed for different vehicles being fixed and how many.

If yer looking for LR approved used then yer need to pounce quickly if you want it. Be prepared to travel for it. Dealers in chains will move the vehicle between dealerships. Hence a vehicle ont sale at GS LR in Portsmouth is available for sale in all of their GS dealerships as group stock. Look at the web site regular.

If you have not already read my other thread, you might find more interesting facts about my beloved D2, but remember it is 18 years old!

Advice sought re. 'End of life' Discovery2
Thanks a 2000 model year will be the newest Land Rover I’ve ever owned. My last discovery was a 1999 but I find the fixing up the fun part about owning one. From the sounds of things it’s too good to scrap or be ‘off roaded’ if you are going to part with it drop me a message.

Will let you all know as soon as I am able to source, and buy, a replacement.:)

If you ave 20k spare buddy, the landrover velour is coming out and good deals are being offered, especially if you know lr staff.
The RR Velar is already out. Cheapest from LR second hand is £40k int UK. LR staff can't just give out vehicles or discounts.

Am looking at trading my Jaguar xj40 1990 and my LR Disco1 V8 1998 for a Freelander 2. Have owned Series 1,2A ,3 ,110 and two Discos. Not one of them was a bad buy. After the first time I had an auto box I have been a convert. Got a chance of an 08 MY 3.2 if they offer me enough in trade. Both the Jag and Disco still sail through the W.O.F. but are getting long in the tooth!
Any advice on what to check for on the F2?

Have yer bought one?
Getting closer! I've found two - a husband and wife private trade-in-,yuk, '64 plates, both iro. 25,000miles, both Metropolis, one black and one white . Both appear to be in great condition with clear MOTs. The one thing I am a bit unsettled about is the size of the Dog Compartment (boot) and the dark privacy glass, I have two Bearded Collies. Both same price - 25 grand. Decisions, decisions, decisions. I can't go to test drive until the weekend so 'watch this space.
I have also seen a Discovery Sport at 26 grand, also black, but fewer 'refinements' EXCEPT the boot is bigger.'62 plate, mileage much higher at about 80,000 - can't remember! A bit negative is that the roof does not open and I use my sunroofs a lot for the animals.
I do have to consider the dogs as they go everywhere with me and are likely to out-live me.

Our dog goes most places with us to. Its why we have a dog guard... it spends most of its time in the garage though and the dog enjoys the comfy seats :)
