Aye. Am glad me wires wer fooked, cos if it wasn't fer that, I wudn't of taken the alternator out, and wudn't of spotted the oil leak. I was cursin the feckin wires for a while.. But now am thankin em! I reckon I could o been lookin for a noo engine if i'd not seen me leak when I did!

so no real damage done then .... nice one ....

Hopefully not. Will wait and see wot Sir Stig sez when he comes round an has a look next week. Then I cun start gettin some parts ordered and get on wi fixin it. Mite as well ave a go at the timing belt too while i'm at it. Cos I'm not sure when that was done last. Gonna be a busy girl me thinks!

Well Sir Stig juss called round to ave a look at me motor, an on the brite side, he reckons its not me head gaskit. He reckons I need to get timin belt covers off an check the gaskit an oil seal behind it.. I love Stig I do.

Can anyone tell me the name o this gasket? The one by the left hand arrow. I need to order one up ready to do me cam shaft oil seal but theres no piccies on Paddocks or Craddocks and I don't no wot its called. Also is there another gasket by the right hand arrow and wots that called too?

I reckon the fost one is the front cover to block gasket an the second is the front cover gasket. But I also reckon that if oils coming out of them gaskets it's cos one of the seals have gone inside the covers, the gaskets are there more to stop ****e getting in than oil getting out.

Thank you Grunt. Aye, am hoping its the cam shaft oil seal, but I gotta tek all that gubbins off the front to get to it. So I gotta then replace the gaskets. Hence I need to get me parts list together. Gonna do the timing belt too whilst i'm at it.

Thankyou Buster. Yer just sooooooooooooo good you are! I've just ordered the timin belt and the seals and gaskets for now. The timin belt tensioner will have to wait. I'm sure when I bought the Landy the bloke mumbled summat about a 'conversion kit' which had been fitted?? Not sure what he ment but i'll suss it when I open her up. My 300tdi came out of a Disco you see, but I don't know wot year it was as I haven't got an engine number on it. So I didn't know wot timin belt tensioner to get. I can order that bit up when i've got it all apart and can see wot it looks like. Think its an earlyish Disco engine but need to know cos apparently they differ slightly. But i'll have enuff to be gettin on with getting to me cam shaft! Where there was some uncertainty about which gasket it cud be i've ordered both, so hopefully one of them will be rite..! But this is a Land Rover so I'm not holdin me breath....:D
