Hello all,
I want to check my ECT sensor on my 1999 4.6, is there a basic OBD reader that will read engine temp-or is it the expensive stuff?

basic reader will tell you the temp.

I believe the torque app with a blue tooth reader works, others will know more.

I have mine plugged in for just about every journey, the paid version is worth it in my personal opinion

Quick update-received the OBD adapter today-works a treat! Can now see engine temp-so can change sensor at leisure. I did read that the OBD temp reading is taken from the other thermistor in the sensor-other thermistor is for engine ecu I think. Don't know if that is correct-but all good for now.

Took it out today-between 95-100. Same as the wifes Focus and a few Omegas i owned.

Mines a 4.0 thor and on the road, 90-92, idling 95-96 max

they are not far off each other-the thermistors in the sensors are nearly 20 years old-and will have I suppose a couple of percent tolerance.

Yep-mine was running between 95-99 today on a 35 mile journey-so seems about right. Will try and change the sensor this week.
