my starter runs but engine doesn't turn over
If I understand this right then the problem is your starter motor. Unless you mean the engine turns over but doesn't fire, in which case diag would be the easiest way forward

thanks for the tips guys, I'm halfway through cleaning all the earths, even though some are quite dirty and rusty and muddy, still no difference.

might burn it and buy a cruiser

that’s the spirit, save your self some time and cut to the burn part

Could a responsible adult please give the bloke some proper advice and point him in the right direction.

It’s that way <—

Whenever I do Earths I try to clean them up good enough to eat off, bolt it back up, then give it a lick of whatever nearly empty can or tin of paint I have lying around in the shed. Ensures your not revisiting it too often

ok so done all the earths now, spic and span to eat off. except the engine bay ones? can't seem to find one in there?
the closest one "to the front" I can find is the one from chassis to car body, located near front crossmember..
could I have lost an earth belt randomly? or am I just not seeing it?

also so this happens: when I turn the key the glow plugs and the full pump don't turn on.
I expressed myself wrong earlier, the engine does turn over but it doesn't fire.

greasy fingers
cheers

Check for info in the Defender section. Is your battery fully charged ?

Have you checked the fuses, for the glow plugs/relay and for the fuel pump ?

battery was fully charged until recently when I started mucking about, going to plug it in and give it another go tomorrow.
did some digging and searching, nothing concrete so far, but gonna do some more searching tonight, something might pop up that I missed in other posts.

also that ****ty factory underbody engine cover is annoying me, throw that piece of **** out for good this time?

Always remove parts that don't look like they do anything useful!

If it’s turning over but not firing it sounds like it could be a fuelling issue?
I had the same issue in my 200tdi a couple months ago and it turned out the be the fuel solenoid cable being unplugged, I understand TD5’s are a lot more electronically managed but it’s worth checking connections on the fuel pump.

couldn't stay idle,so went for another fiddle.
did the bulkhead earth behind coolant overflow tank and the one in the back door next to the wiper motor. I feel like I've done em all now? unless I've missed some mysteriously hidden earths.

no change.

lights and everything seem to work regularly, nothing seems to suffer from a voltage drop as far as I can tell without a multimeter or anything, will try to get my hands on one tomorrow.
the irregularities remain at this points

-> oil around ecu, not a worrisome lot though I must say and this has started recently because I somewhat regularly check it.
-> three warning lights stay on : abs, handbrake !, and TC
-> glow plugs and fuel pump won't start.

I'm confused as last time this was exactly the same (minus the ecu oil situation), and was fixed with a sorting out of the earth from fuseboxcompartment to chassis. today it seems totally unrelated.

plz send help :p

cheers

I'm looking into the three amigos as we speak, going to do some of that stuff tomorrow. seems like a giant pain to go into being so far from home.

also, don't think the three amigos has to do with removal of EGR? it started with a vague not fully lit blinkering of the abs light on dash, so i'm fearful that its the abs causing me distress.
going to start with a brake sensor clean tomorrow and see what happens...
