couldn't stay idle,so went for another fiddle.
did the bulkhead earth behind coolant overflow tank and the one in the back door next to the wiper motor. I feel like I've done em all now? unless I've missed some mysteriously hidden earths.

no change.

lights and everything seem to work regularly, nothing seems to suffer from a voltage drop as far as I can tell without a multimeter or anything, will try to get my hands on one tomorrow.
the irregularities remain at this points

-> oil around ecu, not a worrisome lot though I must say and this has started recently because I somewhat regularly check it.
-> three warning lights stay on : abs, handbrake !, and TC
-> glow plugs and fuel pump won't start.

I'm confused as last time this was exactly the same (minus the ecu oil situation), and was fixed with a sorting out of the earth from fuseboxcompartment to chassis. today it seems totally unrelated.

plz send help :p

cheers
Easy check is a lead direct from the battery earth to possible faults. At least it rules out one problem.

Have a search in the defender section, I believe fuel pump and glow plug relays are under the drivers seat.

vague not fully lit blinkering of the abs light on dash

This could likely be an earth or a short but I think getting codes read first will save you a lot of time and effort

Like Bobsticle said, a temporary fly lead as an earth will rule that out.

You have made a thread in the defenderer section?
You should get more success than in here, not that the advice here is wrong in anyway.

cheers guys, seems like no need to buy a land cruiser after all.

so it was an earth problem as was suspected from the start. even though I cleaned them all in what appears surgical condition, the problem is still elsewhere.
then I decided to just run a new wire from the earth terminal on battery to a bolt under the rails for my seat just to see....
when suddenly I hear the glorious sound of the fuel pump tuning on. the three amigos gone, felt good.
decided I'm just gonna add some earth points for good measure now.

however stage 2 of this saga: cleaning the oil around the ECU just to get home and after replace the whole wiring harness.
a good clean should be enough for now for about 1500km to get home to my trusted shed?
is it ok to actually open the ECU unit? there's screws on it but don't wanna damage the seals? if that's a thing with electronics? mine is one that starts with MSB serial number

anyway sipping on some wine and gently heating up the outside of the ecu with a hair dryer to see if any oil drips out. (already went to town on the plug on the end of the loom with some crc contact spray)

cheers guys

Sh!t that really does look filthy!
When mine bust I undid the screws etc, never hurt it, but others will disagree doubtless!

undid screws and noticed they are dirty on the inside, I'm afraid this needs to be opened.
having a hard time pulling the lid off though, little bastard is stuck on there tight...

seen a guy on youtube doing it with hot water... don't feel like pouring hot water on my ecu though.......

ok last update :p

done and dusted, cleaned the hell out of the insides and outsides of everything.
had a small heart attack when I plugged the ecu back in and the fuel pump didn't turn on...
forgot to connect the sensor cable to the injectors which I cleaned out too, plugged it in and it started like clockwork.

end of the saga (for now).
should I tell my mate with his defender? or let him find it out for himself? ;p

cheers guys
