Hey guys, the intercooler hose was snapped, 10 minute fix and power is back.

Although now the heater core has **** itself so had to bypas the heater so the car holds water. (Found out the hardway when the car started to overheat and the floor was flooded under the rubber mats)

Now have an issue with the gear box. It's loud and clunky and takes forever to change gears. Also noticed what sounds like a metal vibration/rattling on acceleration followed by an electrical wind down noise (like your winding your electric windows down) at front passenger side. The winding noise on happens when you come to a complete stop at an intersection or pulling into the Drive etc.


Just as we start to think it's fixed! Now I'm back to square 1 trying to diagnose the gear issue.

The noise you describe sounds a bit like bearing whine to me. Take the aux belt off and run it for about 20 seconds (don't do it with the engine hot as the water pump won't be working). If the noise it gone, it's something thats driven from the aux belt. Check the bearings on all the belt driven parts. Tensioner bearing is quite a usual suspect on these engines.

As for the gearbox. Park on level ground, remove the oil filler bung and check that the oil is level with the bottom of the filler bung hole. Low gearbox oil (and it doesn't take much) can make gear changes a right pain as the gearboxes are splash lubricated. Too low and the gears don't throw the oil around properly, same with it being too high. (so yes, check that it's not over filled either) Also, it should be a nice golden colour. If it's a white gone-off milky colour, there's water in there. Change the oil.
