Good evening.
this is my first post here, so bare with me if I sound deaf and dumb like.

After having recently bought a 2002 Vogue with 290K on the counter, previous owner having spent a decent fortune on the car, it has begun.
The usual problems with the transfercase, EAS and so on are being dealt with.
However after washing the car thoroughly I drove home listening to the radio, no problems.
6 hours later I started up for work, and hey presto; no audio.
having disassembled as much as I could today these are my current findings:

1: the Navigation DVD (YIB000190) was corroded beyond repair. according to previous owner it worked but lacked the dvd itself.
After unplugging the amp and cleaning it, I went back to the car and unlocked it, whereupon it suddenly spat out the dvd. first and only sign of life.
I removed it, opened it and the main PCB board was corroded beyond recognition on rearward side, underneath the ventilation holes.

2: the Amp (Lear xqk000030) was upon first inspection very much corroded on the forward left contactpoint (signal/power out I assume)
this was cleaned thoroughly and the amp was opened and within there was no sign of any parts letting go, no black marks, no corroded or otherwise broken solder.
all contactpoints cleaned and amp put back.

3:All fuses in glovebox was checked and found OK.

4:the headunit powers on, but no DSP on display, no navigation on display. It scans and finds radiostations, the CD changer whirrs, selects CDs and tracks.

5: I have disconnected battery and done a hard reset, no change.

6:the 10A microfuse in the DSP(?) was Ohmed, found OK but changed to a new fuse nonetheless.

7:all plugs in the rear left compartment was disconnected, cleaned and put back.

still no audio.

Having searched through several forums I have found several solutions, however most date back several years and parts are hard if not impossible to come by I.E. Headunit from other manufacturers.
I would like to retain all standard functions such as webasto heater, so that kind of excludes modernizing.

As per now I don't know which part to replace. refurbished amps, navigation module etc. are hideously expensive, and because I have the amp and DSP with subwoofer, a straightforward headunit modernization seems like a sub-par solution.

can anyone point me in the right direction, either finding the flawed part or suggesting a decent replacement for the system in general?

I have no use for navigation and most of the options within the standard headunit, except the webasto as the climate here is rather chilling (-30C) in the winter.

please ask if I left out some vital information.

Regards

-Tommy

Hi tommy
Welcome you did well in your fault finding I suggest using the search function it will help with where to look next

Hi biketeacherdave

thank you for your reply.
Apparently I have not been sufficiently clear in my post.
I have read through several forums, forumposts and the likes, but have still not found any post that answers all my questions, and the few that have a viable solution have gone out of date, meaning that the parts needed are no longer available.

If you are referring to the fuse held within the cable connector on the DSP, this was Ohmed, found OK and still replaced, for peace of mind.
Unfortunately I have no photos of it right now.
If there is another 10A fuse, then it seems I have not found it.

Are you referring to the fuse described here?
This is the 10A microfuse I have changed.

Would the audiosystem function without the navigation DVD unit?
example: if I left it connected in its current state could it influence the system?
example 2: If I disconnected it, would it restrict the system in any way?

is there any way of testing the DSP amp, to limit the possible error sources?

You can leave the sat nav unplugged they can some times mute the system there is no way of testing the amp except with a known good amp

MartyUk on this forum helped me out with mine - i need to replace the amp but have yet to source one!

You Can test the amp PM me and i will pass on details

thanks

I would be looking closely at the BM54 unit.....these are a common fail item!

The BM54 is the radio unit yes?
I can search and set radiostations, including RDS info, which leads me to believe that this is not the unit that causes the problem, but I may very well be wrong.
Today I measured the amp, and found it got battery power (12,8V) and it got "control power" for lack of a better word (11,8V)
my Fluke had problems getting measurements from other pins.
the amp was opened once again and I ohmed the input/output circuits from closest point on the board to the pin connectors and they all had connection.
same goes for the larger diodes.
Again, nothing seems like it failed on the boards. and the same goes for the BM54 unit internals.
above is pictures of what my head unit recognizes. maybe this tells somebody something?

I had my dsp amp stop working, it turned out the front left pin (i think) on the connector with the large round terminals had corroded and lost contact, I was lucky as I can solder and used bus wire soldered inside the corroded pin to repair it.

I am now contemplating swapping my headunit for a Dynavin E39. However, if the lear amp is faulty, there will still be no sound?
if it is the navi unit (because this is definitely broken) will this be able to corrupt the audio system?
and will the factory BM54 unit be left out of the equation with the Dynavin?

I have searched through several forums, but have not found any identical case to mine where there is three probable causes for audio failure, so I am reaching out to whomever has an idea of how to solve this.

Duff sat nav can, in some circumstances, drag the audio system down.....unplug it see if you get audio again.

have unplugged it but still no audio, no signal noise, no static, just complete silence. Also no dsp visible in headunit.

I can confirm that the bmw dsp amp in the picture will work with the 2002 Vogue with navi.
