The amp is visually identical to the Range Rover one, only difference is the label depicted.
I also have an amp with serial number ending in 54, not 58, arriving shortly.
I found a website specifying BMW parts, and all Lear Amps were told to be uncoded and as long as the host-car had navigation they should be interchangeable.
I followed my hunch and forked over 100£ for each, lo' and behold the newer one (serial number ending in 58) works like a charm. I am very sure the older one will work as well.

I did find the problem with the original one, it was a corroded pin for main power input, have soldered a new wire to it, but I will continue to use the bmw one, because reasons.

If any are interested in the original one; it is for sale to the highest bidder over shipping costs.
Also the other bmw amp will be sold after I confirm it works.

If you go the Dynavin route, you will still need the BM54 operational. This is where the new unit connects to via a 5m long cable with appropriate quadlock. Chose your replacement carefully,Im not sure any of the replacements as yet have OBD functions available. Pure Android units seam to be the best, look at Avin USA.

care to elaborate why you think the androids are the best?
the BM54 is operational in my case, and as far as I can see the Avins are not compatible with DSP.

Simply, I had non Android unit. It was powered by Windows CE in the background with a custom display. It was dire. Took an age to load and was really buggy In the end I re purchases all the old nav unit stuff and fitted an Intravee to give iPod playback.

If you look on the Avin site, there is a pdf of how to work around the DSP issue

Thanks for the insight!

On another note I can confirm that the 086932054 will also work.
Hope this saves someone alot of money.
