I disagree .. strops and slings are absolutely fine for towing or as winch extensions, or if that's all you've got in an emergency, but for recovery from a 'stuck in the mud' point of view, a decent rope is a far better option, more resilient and much less likely to damage the recovered or recovery vehicle than any strap/strop/sling.

Actually I take it back. These are the same ones. Wont pull your Landy out of mud.

The tree thing is for winches, do you have one.

I do. I've not put it under any load as yet so next weekend will be even better...

Kinda worried about this strop that I've just bought. Any recommendations for a decent one???

Wrong person to ask, I'm after a rope :D

I just got one of them but from here:- FRENCH ARMY SURPLUS TOWING STROP heavy duty nylon tow strap rope new / unissued | eBay

bit cheaper (not that i have short arms and deep pockets ;) )

Or if your after other recovery equipment you could have a look here:-
WELCOME - Recce-gear

Yep, thats the buggers, if you aint used it, send it back, chocolate and teapot...

definatly NOT suitable for off roaders, unless they happen to be, erm.... on the road.

I bought thinking, fender weight 3 tonne max, thats a 3x limit, presuming that 9T was the WORKING load, not the BREAKING load.

He's being converted :D:D

When are they going laning? Pics will be essential :D
this saturday

When you're talking ropes for recovery do you mean dead ropes or kinetic.... And what sort of length?
usually "dead", or static. 24mm staple spun polypropylene. any length you want, I have a selection.
contact your local territorial army place and find out what they do with the old aerial runway rope after gala's. they make ideal recovery ropes.

Didn'"t get invited. You going

dont think anyone got an invite really as its an auto****e chod thing.

Was going to. But me and sarah90 on our own ain't the best idea

I'll have to turn this over to someone else to check the route.

I can't do it on my own and don't know enough to choose a suitable area.

Sorry Sarah90, but not a good idea to go laning on our own either

Don't worry .. if you've done them before and you know they're easy that can be part of the 'training' .. I'll try to show you or tell you what I look for when going down a new lane (they'll all be new to me probably) and what would make me turn around etc ... Sure there'll be somewhere we can stop, even if it's a pub car park ... ;)
