Hi, I just bought a 2004 Freelander TD4 two weeks ago. I was driving to work today when it started to loose all power it sat at very low revs for about a mile then just died and would not start.

It tries to turn over but just will not start. I don't know much about mechanical workings of cars but reading other posts it sounds like it could be the fuel pump.

Thanks for any help.

Can you hear the pump when the ignition it turned on? When was the last time it was serviced?

I've heard things on here before about some form of 'limp home' mode on the TD4, if there is such a thing that could be the low power bit, then what ever caused it to go into limp mode has finally gone. But it does sound like fuel starvation - pump, filter etc.

If you get the flux capacitor working, you'll be knicked by the cops for leaving those 2 burning lines on the road - if they can catch you in the 5 minutes 20 it takes the Freelander to reach 88.

Don't forget if you have it changed, there is an uprated flux capacitor you should use.
The old ones were BMW rubbish!
The new ones were released in 2022.

As suggested check out the fuel pump under the O/S/R wheel arch. Pain in the bum to change but plenty of info if you use the Forum search. If pump has failed I would suggest buying OE or genuine replacement as eBay specials can be noisy and suffer from premature failure, filter should also be changed at 60,000 miles.

I personally change the filter at 12,000 miles.

It took me an hour from changing out of my suit, to putting it back on, to change my fuel pump. I thought it was a simple and pretty easy job.

It is if the rivets haven't corroded away and the bolts aren't seized, unfortunately mine were.

Had it taken to a garage turns out it is the fuel pump under the back wheel, had it changed and all is good. Thanks for the replies.

Same as nick , took me 4 hours + , the 2 bolts holding tray had seized ,had to clean the road dirt out of the area , but I was doing the fuel filter !
