Hi Guys,

Just bought my first Landy - 1986 90 pickup. I'm struggling to work out the engine age and origin (disco)
The previous owner said someone had but a 300tdi in it.
The engine number starts 18L. After a week googling engine prefix/decoders i can't find any reference lists for landrover engines that have 18L in them!

The engine looks like a 300 tdi due to intercooler and only one belt. I would however like to know the age. I've noticed the the bell housing does not match the transmission as a few bolt holes are blind and the the outlines are different?

Also can anyone point me in the direction of a rear disc conversion, I believe a disco back axle is the best way?

All help appreciated

Cheers

Why are you so keen to know the exact age? I think the 300Tdi was fitted to Discos between 1994-98

To sorce spares for engine. Re all 300tdis the same? No variants?
Good point! I've had mine for eleven years and never become aware of a variant problem for engine bits. Certainly not service parts, filters etc. I've been lucky in terms of having to replace ancillary items. Although, they might have had a couple of types of turbos fitted.
