Hi my daughter has a 90 td5 that failed mot on chassis (that rare thing called rust lots of rust)so my question is galvanise chassis or normal, new brake pipes, suspension including turrets rubbers engine mounts. How far do I go I would like to go galvanise bulkhead but budget won’t go that far
Any recommendations on best place to get new chassis

Galvanised chassis.
Bulkhead can be patched up while it is off if needed.
Change stuff you think is really bad, but leave stuff that is still safe and legal, otherwise you will end up spending more than buying a good new car.

I had a galv chassis fitted to my 110, bought from Richards Chassis and fitted by a bloke called Paul Morton who had set up a chassis fitting workshop next door to Richards. This was about 10 yrs ago so don't know if he's still there. He also fitted a galv bulkhead that I bought from Ashtree Land Rover. Paul charged about £1,200 for fitting it all.

Having done my research over the past couple of years I ordered a Richards chassis for my 90, can't comment on it yet as it arrives next Monday!
Fitting it DIY.

When I had mine done I supplied the fitter with some parts to replace, its a good time to do it whilst its been rebuilt....

New standard suspension springs (and some galv spring seating bracket/cone thingies purchased from a Welsh landcover suspension parts supplier, can't remember their name) The springs ended up being cheapest from a local LR dealer believe it or not. The new springs transformed the ride, felt like it was on rails compared to the willowy old springs.
New suspension bump stops.
Also had a new steel fuel tank (110 has steel, 90 has plastic?)
To compliment the galv rear crossmember I had a new galv front bumper, and galv tree sliders. That way I had a galv strip running all the way around the Defender at the same eye level, see the photos below.
New genuine windscreen wiper motor.

Consider stainless bolts where necessary.
I wish I had had a new wiring loom fitted, but I ran out of money

After all of that, it had a respray so went from this..

Nice!

Bonatti grey ;)

Hi all,

My D90 is just about to go in for a Marsland.
Having a few bits done at the same time:
  • LOF Clutch
  • Timing belt
  • Buzzweld 2k armour
I’m supplying suspension kit (used) and turrets.

Fingers crossed all goes well.

LF what are those 2 tubes coming out of the bulkhead and going to the bonnet?

Just noticed them after you posted it. It looks like individual washer jet lines. I’m guessing it’s in an unfinished state in the photos, as the windscreen hinges are also missing. I’m guessing again, that the hoses will end up running along the wiper arm to the jet.

Instead of the original single spray jet, I've tapped into the windscreen washer pipe behind the dash, and now have two pipes with one going to each wiper arm which sprays water as each arm wipes. Originally attached to wiper spray arms from a Peugeot, but now the pipes are just cable tied to the wiper arms. In that photo one of the pipes was disconnected.

Thinking of selling my 110 this summer, but finding it difficult working out a realistic price to ask???

The D90 has been dropped off and will hopefully be ready in two weeks. I would have loved to do the job myself, but we live on a boat and don’t have access to a garage or lift.

My son bought a 90 back in 2018 which had had a Richard's chassis done on it in 2014 I've just purchased the defender of him and I'm currently replacing the passenger footwell and the chassis is rock solid ( it was a galvanised one mind you) doesn't look like its had anything on it neither
