I would have made the same comments if it was a P38. Raising the suspension may make the car unstable for road use, personally I think such modifications should be banned as they are in some countries.

I have no desire to enter into a heated discussion with you. As an owner of one of the more 'modern LR's' I can assure you that they are certainly not designed to be tinkered with at home! There are certain in-built 'things' that ensure the future of the LR dealership! For sure, the basic items can be done but ….. .

It's unlikely an fairly new Evoque is going to 'need' a light bar for practical purposes, so this is just for looks and occasional light use (see what i did there?)! Any light bar will do, pretty much so long as it is connected to its own 12v source and not tied into any existing circuits as it will probably overload and/or throw a fault code.
Has anyone ever lifted one yet? I'm guessing it won't take much for all the ECUs to hate whatever you do, more body roll will be introduced etc which the suspension will try to fight against

I doubt there are ecu's pertaining to having heightened coils, he may need to adjust the headlight sensors wif a hammer though.

Still impressed he managed to buy a ~£12-14k motor at 19! I know i didn't have that kind of spare cash at that age. Perhaps less impressed he thinks a light bar and bigger wheels is an upgrade but everyone's taste is different


I don't know about the OP's situation, but youngsters with , what back in the day,would have been thought of as expensive cars is now quite normal. When I joined the Army , many moons ago, a young soldier could barely afford a last legs Nova , or similar. When I finally left a few years ago, they were running around in brand new ejokes, Volkswagens, Audis and a one of my, 21yr old, Lance-jacks had a brand new RRS. They were all paying silly prices for insurance, and on HP up to the hilt, but it didn't seem to matter to them.
The days of working up to a decent car don't exist any more. The entitlement generations have put a stop to that ;)

That is very true. My son is a junior officer in the RAF and drives a TD5 D90 which is paid for, but he has friends that are paying over £1000 a month on PCP for cars I would never dream of buying. I think the record is the guy with an Audi RS8.

I know I'm getting old , but I do feel a sadness for some of the rites of passage that have been lost. Buying a runaround, within your means, no debt, and then learning to work on it, was one of those rites. Similar to your first fixer-upper home ( have to admit I was given my first property at 18yr old, but I still had to do fixing up).
Now people just want, and want it now. Instead of laughing, in years to come, about their adventures fixing their cars. Or the time the ceiling fell in , as you lay in bed, in your first property ( yes , it did :) ) The tales will be of what they didn't do , because they were scrimping to pay off debt*, or hiding from the bailiffs. It's sad.

* The 21yr old Lance-jack as an example again, who was never to be seen on nights out, only seen in the Mess for official functions, never went on fun outings with rest of unit. All to pay for the RRS and the extortionate insurance that came with it. :(
