I am not talking about the none EGR engine. Obviously the IAT sensor can be read but the MAF can't. As for your other post Nanocom will read MAF on petrol engines as will Faultmate and Rovacom but not on the diesels. They will tell you if it's showing a fault but there is no live data readout.

He must be getting confused the I did explain it was a diesel and that I was on about a egr with no air temp and that the pre egr had an air temp and he said it does obviously it doesn't :)

The pre EGR has an AIT sensor in the manifold. Used in conjunction with the MAP sensor, fuel temp sensor for fuelling. The EGR engine has an air temp sensor in the MAF but it is not used directly for fuelling. It's first priority is to drive the EGR. Then the temp it reads is used in conjunction with readings from other sensors for fuelling. But the MAF alone does not control fuelling.

This is from my rave range rover 2000 on
As you can see the data is used to calculate fuel and as wammers has stated the egr

But it also talks of the air temp in conjunction with map so there must also be an sensor connected with or on the turbo ?? Even tho it's an egr

Another RAVE error combining pre EGR and post EGR systems.

Can does any one know what system rovo com is I'm being told that MAF readings can be read with this ???? I haven't a clue what Rovacom system is
Rovacom functions and Faultmate functions are for the most part the same, Rovacom finished before the MAF was fitted to the diesel I think so it's unlikely to give diesel MAF readings.
I don't actually believe the ECU is capable of outputting the MAF data on diagnostics, if it was I'm sure it would be available on Faultmate.
The MAF ECU seems to have only been a short term interim solution with more sophisticated ECU's already in production but not suitable for the M51.

Beat you both....post #79 on Page 8 :p:p:D:D

True Ant. But if the technical writers at Landrover don't know how it works, it leaves little room for someone who doesn't know his arse from his elbow who reads it, to understand. Fortunately there are a few enlightened people on here. Not many, but a few. It could have been qualified by adding "On the none EGR engine". :D:D:D

I had an email today from Blackbox support who said that in their opinion, the Nanocom is querying a non-existent sensor and returning a default value.

So the Nanocom can't check the operation of the MAF. Which seems to be the case with most diagnostic machines so it's not an issue with the Nanocom.

I have access to a PicoScope that will, apparently, measure the output of the MAF to check that it is working ok so I'll hook it up to that when I get chance. It's great working somewhere that has a fully equipped Motor Vehicles Department (a college) with all new kit :)

To be honest think i have already said that a couple of times. You really do need to start reading and taking in what is said. No point in saying it otherwise. :):)

I had already emailed them. They just clearly aren't as quick to respond as you are :)

I was just posting their response for information purposes only. It would have been more interesting if they'd contradicted you and said it measures the MAF perfectly!!

Having had a Nanocom before they were available to the general public i can assure you it doesn't. If you have no faults then it will be working. Run the engine from cold and take the pipe off the EGR put your finger over it if you get a modulating vacuum there it is working.

You got a better response than me ;)

Good afternoon

As this system was designed based on the Faultmate MSV-2 which in turn was
originally developed from land Rovers Testbook some years ago, if there is
no function to read what you require then that means that the there is no
way that we have of reading that information.

As for what reads the sensor I could not begin to advise as we simply
provide diagnostic equipment and do not work on vehicles.

I would suggest researching the functions via the internet and land rover
forums as every possible function available is already included in our
systems.

Ron Blakey

No the maf sensor on the air intake on a egr diesel the only function I
can see is the air temp sensor but this remains the same @ -38.8 and
doesn't change what is the reading function for the maf mass air flow
sensor as I cannot see this function on your machine ??? So what reads the
sensor ??

Good afternoon

I assume for your vehicle description that you are referring to the
Motronic V8 P38 Range Rover? If so please refer to the ECU guide here

http://web.nanocom.it/download/BOSCH MOTRONIC V8 P38 and DII.pdf
and under the Inputs section is the MAF sensor reading information

Kind Regards

It was Ron that replied to me too and he said that they had been discussing Nanocom's and MAF's just yesterday :)

Maybe it's not considered a priority on the diesels. The diesel MAF does not screw the engine up like it does on the petrols if it fails. As a matter of fact i have never heard of one failing. Cue the thousands of people who have had failed diesel MAFs. :):)

I'm sure I took mine off once I don't even remember a difference :)

Ok, I think we're done. I took mine off, didn't notice a difference. I'll leave well alone from now on.

But it's been both fun and interesting.

And I've still yet to do the run up to Preston resetting the trip. Maybe a certain someone up there will take it round the block and see how it handles ;)
