Found a new engine I might get :D Ford 462 big block V8, be a bit of a tight squeeze but I could just about afford it and a new rad for it

As this will not be a daily driver anymore I think I might be tempted to pull the trigger on it

Sorry mis typed :p It's a 7.57L I was looking at the wrong spec sheet (changed the first post)

I think I'm going to keep the disco now and just have this as a toy

Well I changed the thermostat and tested it in 100*c water, thermostat opened about 2mm so thats a lot less than my waxstat one in the same temp water. Hoping that helps to keep it a bit cooler.
Would have run it but the battery is buggered now so thats next on my list of stuff I have to buy.

also;

Got some mates to help me fit the body back on, however it would appear that the fuel tank is too high up now so next job is to replace the bolts with longer rear ones in order to drop it down an inch. Just means for now the rear body is a little up off the top of the rear crossmember by about half an inch.

Front ones are original so they're the right height

Thanks mate, hoping to have it back together next weekend, waxoyl the chassis and finally get round to chemical metaling the inner bulkhead. Was going to do that today but getting the body on took a while.

On another negative note I realised I welded on the windscreen mounts slightly off their
designated spot so I'm going to have to grind them off and re-weld too :doh::doh::doh:

Then all I need to worry about is that damn engine if the thermostat doesnt fix my problem

Well I managed to fire up the bugger today using a power pack

Stupid things still overheating or not……..gauge is definitely off as it went right up past the red zone, water pumps working cos I saw it pumping (had the cap off to get rid of any airlocks) and the water wasn't even boiling

Plus I could touch the engine block and it didn't burn my hand so it was defo under 100*

Only thing I noticed was that after it hit boiling point when I was running it to remove airlocks is that it seemed to create a scum on top of the water, not much but it was there although I think it was mainly bits of crap coming off the rad's insides as I don't think I flushed it out fully with the hose.

Cheers 2A, I'm just going to fit it back together for now and then send it off to the local landrover repair shop (not LR themselves)

Been quoted £274 or thereabouts for a new headgasket and engine clean up (more if skimming is needed)

But hoping that it's simply the rad, got 2 pics to upload later as I'm not at home so don't have my laptop

Yep, checked all hoses

There was a white scum on the top of the water after I brought it up to boiling point without the cap on which I put down to the crap left in the rad being dislodged but if not then that could be HGF related, water flow looked slow too though as it was more of a trickle coming out rather than a torrent which wasn't what I was expecting

Going to have a word with the shop tomorrow about them collecting it next week or the one after when I go in to get my windscreen mount

Well it's coming together now, landrover spares are hopefully picking it up next week to fix the overheating problem and I've found an old SD1 engine for sale in town so hopefully I can pick that up

The white foam has disappeared as of today and it wasn't creamy it was just a white foam when it happened but heres some pics

Nearly there now

looking good, the sd1 engines are good for 165 bhp, that's what I've got in mine and it goes like the clappers! :D

hahaha well mine weighs a bit more than yours so it needs all the help it can get!!!

I'm hoping that white foam isn't HGF as it disappeared yesterday when I looked into the rad so might not be

Probably going to buy the engine though if it's still for sale as it's always nice to have an abundant supply of spare parts

Chemical metalled the front end to fill all the tiny holes so I'll be sanding that down once it's dry tomorrow

Also welded the windscreen mounts back on

Fitted the drivers side wing back on and bonnet

Went to fit the doors to find I've lost 9 of the bolts FFS

Just bought him a new V8 from a Snatch, comes with service history and all the extra's plus the HD rad for an extra £10

Total = £410 next day delivered

So thats me skint, I'll be going down the scrappy to get me some Audi seats from the A8 they're breaking I think as I sold my bucket seats after realising they weren't going to be much use
