Mavbe it was a basket case and was a bunch of stuff thrown in back of the bed, reason previous owner got rid of it. But buying something like this is a buyer be ware, sorry to say Evil but you don't stand a chance of getting your money back. But the right bell housing cant be that much?

James thanks for the reply;

Not sure how it differed, the mechanic showed me but I'm not able to recite what he said

All I know is that its the shaft that goes into the engine before the clutch goes on, onto where the crankshaft is.
Basically the old shaft is far too big for the new engine and the only way to get round it is a new gearbox which he says isn't worth it for the amount it would cost in labour and parts to get it done

Monkey man :p the engine was sold as a compatible fit which it obviously isn't so it's been mis-represented and mis-sold as I bought under false pretence therefore I am entitled to a refund via the law of paypal

spigot bush on v8 engine is 19mm series 3 box and all 4 cyinder engines 22mm your old v8 would have had modified bush ,crank drilled to take bush or input shaft ground to fit on gear box if a std series box there is no other input shaft or box that would fit apart from v8 box lt95 which has 19 mm input shaft end ,i presumed you knew this, most ive seen input has been ground down so engine change is simple, when goinig other more popular way a thicker bush is fitted into diesel crank

I didn't know that, no ……… and as I am now skint and don't wish to sink anymore of my savings into this disaster zone I'm going to bow out……..I accept failure

Never mind I'm done, I shall wash my hands of this money pit and attempt to get back whatever I can in parts. The fairey overdrive alone is worth in excess of £200 so that will help to soften the blow

Compatible is not guaranteed, don't think you will win on this one:(

Well we shall see, I've opened a dispute with PP

He said it would fit and I have that in writing so I've got a bit more leverage than he does in this

If not I'll just have to ebay it along with the rest but hoping for a full refund

Evil I'am on your side and understand your thinking, just trying to be realistic. Do wish you luck M8 let us know how you make out:)

Thanks John, I've already listed a few parts on ebay

And I'll also put up and ad in the for sales as I have literally everything coming off it

The bugger offered me £200 refund so I've said no seeing as I've not fitted or messed with it

I'll be getting PP to do it's work I think as I've got the contract he signed on my side

Tell him 600 for pain and suffering and mental anguish as you is a virgin and he poped your cherry real good and it hurt:rolleyes::rolleyes:

you can get adapters or could ,depends which way old engine and box were mated ,input ground down to suit ,thin walled bush crank drilled and slighlty thicker bush and adapter were end of crank cut off and new bolted on,

I'm going to leave it I think James, I've sunk far too much into it already and have my eye on some disco parts now to make the most of what I have

Just finishing putting the major bits on ebay before I head out

No idea how they did it as the mechanic didnt say but all I know is that the little shaft didnt go into the engine

fair enough once your hearts gone from the job it will never be right, realise as much as you can and onto the next project :)

You're quite right there, I noticed myself getting more and more ****ed off with it and doing less when I was working on it

I think I'll go back to guns and fishing rods once its gone

BOLLOCKS

Just totted up how much I've actually spent on this thing, £1875 at top end estimate

FFS, thats near enough £1900 I could have spent on various other things like guns, ammo, booze, girls and my other landrover
