If you can't get the too bolts then take the plenum, base and inlet manifold off in situ and you can get a spanner on them which you can apply a mallet to :)

Sorry the threads been abit dead, been up in newcastle home on sunday! picked my engine hoist up from Dr evil so thats a step in the right direction! also bought some luxuries off of axledeep in a v8 some 2" lift blocks and some cones for the rear, all look very well made so looking forward to getting them on! start a new job in a local garage on monday so my rebuild works gonna have to be on a sat afternoon and a sunday from now dot have the freedom of only being part time, but should have a few more £ to throw at the disco now ! :)

Just got home, got a few new tools, picked up my engine hoist. Just took the plenum off to find all the trumpets intact! ImageUploadedByTapatalk 21367170826.518579.jpg
Will really get shifting next weekend, still have to get those damn gearbox bolts off! ohhh an i got a full 2" body lift kit coming my way :D!

Well if they arrive by weekend will try that, i purchased a mini ratchet so that may be able to get to the tricky ones. But if not body lift is looking good, not looking forward to trying to get bumpers to look good though

It would just be a case of getting it in position, clamp, mark ,drill, fit

im sure I put a link to a pic of my engine stand set up to bolt it to the block for you yesterday, anyway I cant see it now but have a look on my 4.4 thread its in the last link to an album :)

Heres the mistake! Took head off! DOH need to keep head on to take engine out! What a idiot! filled the bores with water :( so spent ages drying them out filled with WD40 repeated and then put a little engine oil in. As i wont get engine out for a while dont want the bores to rust, but goo news from that is theres no feal able slip on the liners :)

Rocker shafts looked good aswell, still left me searching for the cause of my knocking engine.

Can you spot the bad tappet? i didnt for a while, only when i had a closer look at them!

ImageUploadedByTapatalk 21367442124.014037.jpg
All the bottoms of the tappets are spotless, look brand new!

This is the bad tappet! Stuck completely, the rest where around 2mm down, this one was stuck at 9.5mm! so hope thats where terrible MPG and knocking has been coming from, it was the 2nd tappet from front on passenger side and i had believe was coming from that cylinder so very happy :D

What a happy disco, P.S. thats a spare bonnet mines tucked up safely, using spare to avoid damage to mine when removing it so all in all a very productive night , still wanna get engine out as i have come this far !

Lol you could strip the botom end and take the pistons out and lift the block out with your hands. Those stuck tappets would defo cause the tapping! Just check the bearings for play aswell.

Bought a engine hoist and stand now, would feel like i had robbed my self if i didnt use them ;) found a good local engine shop, so gonna get the block out get the bores checked and the heads checked, never had overheating but may aswell get it all tested, need to get some pics up tomorrow of the block above the cam and where the tappets are as there seems to be a few chips and chunks missing :s don't know if that is anything to worry about or not ?

i'd check cam lobe and if ok stick a new follower in and run that. looks a clean engine.

Need to see a pic tbh.. obove the cam between the followers is a bit rough cut

Yeah it looked rough all the way along, a few followers holes had a couple chips out of them at the bottom nothing hugh would say like 2-3mm , no visible cracks or anything

Engine was feeling very low on power , dot think could be cause completely by the tappet, and if im gonna do a new cam and got all the gear may aswell do bottom end, no need for the car in a rush ;) plus i wanna learn on it
