The oil pump does not matter about timing.......but please lube the oil pump with vaseline or assembly lube to help it create the vacuum it will need to draw the oil up and start pumping it through the engine.

So do you have the cam specs to do the phasing/dialling in?

Timing time, so helppppp ha right i have my DTI set up on inlet valve for cylinder 1

Using that as my point of reference as 20 before TDC , as cant get wire to stay still.

Sheet with cam says "intake lobe centre 111 degrees on intake and 200 degrees on exhaust, cam lobe lift is 269 to 272 on both intake and exhaust" so to me that sounds like intake valve should be at its highest 111 after TDC and exhaust should be 200 after TDC, on cylinder 1?

Set timing , got it bang on, 111 after TDC inlet valve is at it highest point :) ImageUploadedByTapatalk 21372886688.729875.jpg

Exhaust manifold on with new stainless bolts

Torqued rockers on

Span engine over a good few times no signs of me having cocked up the timing (well dramatically anyway )

Would it be wort running a compression test to make sure i havent made a nut of it

What is the lift at TDC spec? That is the easiest way, the cam I fitted was 050" at TDC. So after finding true TDC I put no1 piston on true TDC and advanced the cam shaft until I had 050" lift and locked it down.

If all goes the way I would like it to I will fire my beast up this weekend.

Really starting to look like a engine again ImageUploadedByTapatalk 21373057611.486052.jpg

Took oil pump out, have a new one to replace it with tomorrow just need to go to boots first and buy a load of Vaseline haha! then once thats done really im about ready to drop the engine back in. Going to do the plenum and inlet manifolds once the block is back in the car

Really pleased with my progress, want it running before the 19th is my goal!

turners and real steel seem to think we do, I dont know. I cant see how much difference it can make on a hydraulic lifter tbh but when fitting aftermarket cams etc we are supposed to!

I bought the kit from turners (real steel do one too) but still trying to decide. my cam spec says lifter pr-load should be 40 thou

er lifter preload?

I did not bother with it, if I was building a racing motor I think it should be checked, this is my opinion only, cant really see for the slight of standard spec I have gone on my cam that it will have changed to much. I will know once the engine is running if it was necessary or not....lol....then I will update.

Looking really good.
Are those new callipers? And are those solid front disc's? Why did you not upgrade to vented front disc's?

Remember vented front discs fill with mud and set hard for all us offroad boys :)

Thats why i didn't ha! Not that i offroad really...... Yet! but i got the callipers off bump at a good price no point in my eyes upgrading to vented, just another thing for my insurance company to bitch about :( LOL but yeah new callipers, discs and pads in all 4 corners! And break lines ohh and braided hoses. going to put front cover on tomorrow, will put up some pics and het some more pics of odds n sods :)

you on about grooved or vented? I thought all late rrc (+disco) were vented? my 1990 rrc was

my disco ES is vented but not grooved, grooved is the same width though just a different part number IIRC
