Now rear passenger window

Stripped out the front passenger seat to check the wiring and found

Seems there has been a water leak, sunroof drain tube gets my vote, and rather than sort the problem properly a previous owner has placed 3 pieces of wood under the foam matting to lift it off the floor, matting removed and drain tube will be inspected.
On the plus side, found 2 one pound coins!

also found a relay under the front passenger seat outboard of the transmission and transfer box ecu's, seems one of the wires has been cut and a red wire inserted that when traced leads to the diagnostic socket

Any idea why this would be done?

Might be someone trying to stop it self-levelling? There's a site soemwhere with a bodgit and that looks like one if ever I saw one.

It does self level so must be for something else.

It does indeed self level.
I also overhauled the compressor and works fantastically well, the teflon washer on the piston was well passed it sell by date.
 
A good catch that, much better to service it than let it die.

No chance, I' been away quite a lot recently and just back this afternoon but away again tonight.

The BECM is on the workshop bench.
I start tracing the window problem on Wednesday
 
Rear passenger window all sorted
Couldn't really pin down exactly what the problem was.
Although both the door switch and centre console switch seemed to work ok there was no clicking of the relay.

Removed the regulator and replaced with a good 2nd hand one, still no joy.
Removed the wiring from the B pillar, all good.
Finally bit the bullet and disconnected the BECM and removed it to the bench for testing.
Put power across the relay terminals and both sides clicked.
No sign of any corrosion or any burning on any of the tracks.
All back together and refitted.

Next stage was going to be check all wiring, however when I reconnected the battery and tried the centre console switch (prior to connecting the window motor), I had clicking on the relay on the BECM.
Connected the window motor and hey presto, window works!.
 
Next and hopefully the last problem is the book symbol on the HEVAC LCD Panel.
Swapped out both right hand side blend motors but still no change.
Had a look on the Internet and found a You Tube clip on how free the Distribution flap crank should be

Mine is nothing like that, and very hard to move. Seems the problem is my flaps are stuck shut!

So time to get in there and sort it out.

Any advice on freeing these warmly welcomed

PS - I have tried the self tapper botch, to no avail
 
I had the same 'stiff flaps' problem, tried the screw bodge but couldn't lever the 2 halves apart, so reverted to drilling 2mm hole in the bits of the airbox you can access by taking the centre vents out and removing the switch panel on the centre console. Then bent the thin tube of a can of silicone oil to 90 degrees and squirted it through the holes in all directions, while turning the grey toothed actuator thing at the RH side back and forth (as shown on the vid) - it gradually eased and got much looser. It's been fine now for a few months.

Did this tonight and worked a treat, book symbol has now disappeared from the display.

Rebuild the interior tomorrow and one more fault to fix with the front door lock and that should be it:D
 
Spent yesterday cleaning the project, nice and sparkly after a good wash and polish.

Front door lock removed and taken apart, loads of melted plastic inside, 2nd hand lock ordered and awaited.

Also found the rear wiper washer, didn't work, checked the one way valve, which was fine. Removed front fog light and checked the washer pump, swapped the connection to one of the other pumps and working as it should.
Drained the screen wash and removed the offending pump, the casing of which was split. New pump ordered and awaited.


A while back I changed out the sunroof motor for a 2nd hand one and it works as it should.
I read up on setting it properly and did this as per RAVE.
I have also ran the roof back and forth, up and down several times now, but every time I insert the ignition key, I get the 'Sunroof Not set' message am I missing something?

Going to spend the day lavishing some TLC on the Discovery whilst awaiting my parts delivery.
 
Quick update

2nd hand lock turned up and to my cost found it was the wrong one.

Found a guy who refurbishes P38 locks and sent my original one off to him and 48hrs later my refurbished lock turned up after having the motor replaced, micro switches replaced and all cleaned and regreased.

Lock fitted today and now I have nice central locking all round, a treat to press the button.

Rear screen wash pump renewed and all good there.

Managed to find a set of 2nd hand front mud flaps on Ebay for a fiver, took a bit of fettling of new metal clips but all fitted and make a bit of a difference as there were holes in the plastic outer sill cover and these looked grubby but are now hidden with the flaps.

Running out of things to do for the MOT now.

Bleeding the brakes next and considering replacing the calipers as they look a bit passed their best.
 
I was the guy who refurbished the latch for the OP. I try to have a small stock of latches ready for sending out on an exchange basis to minimize down time, but if I don't have one in stock then I can rebuild the originals and get them back out to people aswell.

I do it as a hobby around my 'real job' - which unfortunately keeps me pretty busy - but whenever I am home I try to fit in as much Range Rover bits as I can. I have a stack of about 30 - yes THIRTY - latches which are stripped and I'm slowly working through to get rebuilt..

Update

Finally got round to finishing the Range Rover mid June and had it MOT'd on the 18th.
On route to the Testing station, couldn't get the windscreen washers to pump water and discovered the pipe had popped off the Non return valve and had widened and wouldn't fasten back on. Of course no tools with me. Managed to rub an inch of the pipe against the kerb and refitted!

Passed first time with no advisories.

Anyway since that time, I have now sold it on and its gone so back to the one green oval product once again. My trusty old Discovery
