taking the dash out is a good idea, if its like mine its a real moisture trap, the dash under the vinyl is all metal too, my dash was really really rusty and some bits under the vinyl had entirely disintegrated

good luck with it and welcome to series ownership a little tip is to keep every nut and bolt you can undue and keep them safe then replace with new metric bolts because the bugger is full of imperial threaded holes and its getting bluddy hard to get imperial nuts and bolts but I do belive CD supplys post if you need them I go over and raid his stores when im in England CD Supplies Limited | Tools, Nuts Bolts, Fixings and Workshop Materials | Bluetown Sheerness Sheppey Kent UK

Cheers:tea: looking forward to series ownership....... I think:D

Will definitely keep that in mind, cheers for the tip. As found out last week sourcing imperial nuts for the clutch master cylinder was a nightmare! :(

Will check the linky out later on ;)

Definitely think it will be a good idea, from what i can see behind the plastic it does not look too healthy

Will be making a start on it tomorrow morning :)

I have used a company called "nookys nuts" for imperial nuts & bolts on an old motorbike, they do mail order. I have a series 3 truck cab (88) and cant believe how much longer your truck looks. Great truck, keep up the good work.

Lower dash came out this morning. And it's safe to say it's looking a bit sorry for itself:(

But..... I reckon it's repairable ;) and as you lot love pictures here's some more :)

Lower dash out.

Only bit of rust on the bulkhead behind the dash was next to the steering column.

Condition of dash itself.....

So thought I'd proceed by taking of the vinyl very carefully.

Really isn't much metal left on the bottom part! Here's the vinyl which will be cleanedup before i stick it back on.

And the last pic of the removable top piece removed.

More to follow

rust has really got to her, is the rest of the bulkhead okay?

Apart from passenger footwell, passenger door post all the way up to windscreen, and a few surface rust patches here and there the bulkhead isn't actually that bad.:D
Can definitely save it from the tin worm with minimal work unlike some bulkheads I've seen

Been thinking about replacing my entire interior with a nice folded ally one :p and mines rock solid, no idea wether I should sell it or keep it incase I revert back!

Or just keep the standard one and mod it

Mod it! You've modified everythink else so why not :p

Im modding mine slightly...... There's 3 holes in the centre that are covered up by the vinyl. I reckon they will nicely fit 3 gauges of some description :D

And a square looking bit which is almost a hole which i reckon will house a few switches quite nicely:cool:

I likes switches and stuff..... :p:p:D:D

Right bit more progress on the dash :)

Started by cutting out all the rust and then started making up the repair pieces.

20131011_132830.jpg

But because I'm completely fricking useless my phone died after taking that photo so that's all for now

On the plus side all repairs have been welded in place and has had it's first coat of paint.

Will get a photo or two of the finished product tomorrow before and after the vinyl goes back on although the way the vinyl looks even after a good scrub i might retrim it with black suede.

I'm thinking of doing that at some stage. Got a water temp and oil pressure gauge with a chrome bezel on them. I want to try and find a clock of the same sort of style to go along with them and then I'll fit them (again a roundtuit, got to have something to mess around with when its all back together :p )

Gave up with the dashboard today because the vinyl looks horrific :(

But today i went to a fabric shop and bought 5 metres of black faux suede to retrim the lot:)

Ive also started to make a bit to extend the triangle switch bit that sits in the middle. As I'm hoping to house my cb and and stereo in it. Plus some more switches :D

Other than that today i made my light bar.

In the process of wiring the four spot lights up at the moment and will get pictures of the finished product and it fitted. :)

Mine was re trimmed badly in faux leather.....make sure you use the right glue I not it'll peel like mine is! Need to re stick the stuff now!

Should all be good the stuff I've bought is specially for retrimming cars. High temp stuff IIRC.

Light bar is finshed! :D

Just now need to run wire through the roof and into the cab then i can sort wiring up the relays and switches (when me carling switches arrive).

Here's some pics. :D

Just need to now get some big round spots sat on the bumper and lighting is done ;)

Got a new set of wheels with road legal rubber on em at the weekend.

So today set about getting them painted as the flaky green they were looks nasty!

20131014_145804.jpg

That picture was taken after a good go over with the jet washer. Alot of the 'orrible green paint came off whilst washing. I then proceeded to giving them a good sand down followed by another wash and left in them to dry.

Once dry set about giving them a lick of black paint. Even after two of coats they look pretty darned good! :D

Gonna give them a few more coats and they are done :)

So..... Bulkhead welding and brakes to sort and she's ready for an MOT!! :D:D

Bit of a major update for today :)

Last night i started to unbolt the rear tub, this morning i lifted it off. Easier than i thought working on serieses:D

Anyway on to the pictures ;)

First up tub off and tub on floor. Used me engine crane to lift it off as I'm doing it on my own.

Close up (almost) of the chassis from rear. Suprised as how much mud is still there despite jet washi ng from underneath prior to this!

20131016_142336.jpg

Next up chassis after being attacked with a combination of wire brushes and havinga second wash.

20131016_145354.jpg

After that i treated all i could get to with kurust, waited an hour then gave it 2 coats of black chassispaint and heres what it looks like now :D

20131016_161435.jpg

Now to put the rear tub back on and start unbolting the seat box ready for tomorrow.

Want the whole chassis treated by the weekend
