Crazier than a box of frogs on acid
Hi all just thought I'd start a new thread for my new addition to my landy hoard :)

A 1981 109' series 3. It's been a long time coming as I've always wanted a series and this one came along just at the right time :D

She does need a bit of work doing to her and is primarily the reason for starting the thread as she'll be a sort of rolling resto with a few improvements thrown in here and there;)

And here she is......

So tomorrow the fun starts.
Plan is to get the new clutch master cylinder fitted and bled up and then she'll be rolling under her own steam again, then rebleed the brakes.
Then fit me cb radio and then generally give her a good clean.

Then i can look at sorting the 2 bits of welding that need sorting, the passenger footwell and a bit next to the top door hinge on the bulkhead
 
Well today was an absolute ballache! :mad:

First problem.... No nuts to fit master cylinder to clutch pedal.

Second problem.... Nowhere in Salisbury seems to stock imperial of anything!
Spent 3 hours driving round everywhere i could think of and not one place stocked unf nuts!
Eventually went i to my local garage who did have some and very kindly let me have a few.

Third problem.... This made me think i was going mad.... The adaptor that fits on the master cylinder for the fluid line was missing... Spent the next hour and a half driving round landy places looking for someone that might have one. Eventually found a place in three legged cross who had which he kindly took off of a series in the hedge out back :)

Fourth problem.... Finally went to bleed the clutch with my new eazibleed that i bought yesterday and low and behold i couldn't get to the fecking slave cylinder! Just not enough space to get my hands in there. Probably could of got at it if i were to remove the exhaust but going by the look of it didn't really want to take it off..... So decided to take out the floor and transmission tunnel which gave me just enough room to get to the bleed nipple. :)

Happy days! But oh no it had to throw another spanner in the works! :mad:
Connected up me eazibleed undone the bleed nipple and nothing!

Disconnected the eazileed took out bleed nipple as i thought i might be blocked but nope the slave is seized effing solid! :mad:

Took it off looked in and it's rusted to buggerery!
Chucked all me tools in the garage locked it up and left it! Had enough for one day:(

Don't think today could of gone any worse tbh. But tomorrow's another day and got plenty to get on with so will keep you all updated....... As long as i don't burn the fecker that is... :D
 
Yeah, that sounds about right :D Just wait till you start stripping it down :p
 
Finally got the clutch bled! :D new slave and master now fitted! And she drives loverly! Well arou d my driveway anyway :eek:

Next job....... Bleed the brakes :eek:
 
I parted with my 109 truck cab about 35 years ago, run an 88 now with side windows.
After seeing your 109 I am tempted to look for another.

All i can say is go for it. :)

I absolutely love the look of 109 truck cabs, seen this one and bought it without hesitation :eek:

Haven't regretted it either despite it being a right PITA :D
 
Righty then :)


Brakes bled but still spongy.... Think i may order a new master cylinder for the brakes.
Then possibly new brake cylinders for the front as one bleed nipple is seized solid.
While I'm at it may aswell replace all the flexi's as they look ancient along with a new set of shoes. :eek:

Once i got ****ed off with the brakes i went on to cutting out the rotted passenger footwell.

Going to weld in a piece of 1.6mm zintec sheet in there for now and look at doing proper repairs to the bulkhead when the weather warms up again.

Angle grinder gave up halfway through cutting the repair section out so proceeded to jet wash the chassis which was absolutely filthy! Heres a pic of it nice and clean :)

Most probably have a bit more tomorrow once I've bought a new angle grinder.
 
Bit more done today:D

First off took a trip to b&q to buy new grinder, then proceeded to weld in the repair panelfor the footwell. Forgot pictures as i was doing it but got a pic of it finished. Well almost, it needs another coat of paint :p

Next job for today was finding out why me handbrake wasn't working.
Took the prop and handbrake drum off then noticed one off the linkages wasn't connected :doh:
Although im glad i did take it off as it looks like i have a leaky output seal.... Another job to add to the ever growing list of problems :boom:

Next few jobs probably aren't that interesting but shall tell you anyway :D

Spare wheel off the bonnet just cos I'm not keen on it being there.

Then it was a matter of cleaning out the front lights as they were growing some shrubbery in them.
