he just said the fault codes arent linked to it not starting. im really really worried at this stage. maybe i sould get it transported to a main dealer.

Sounds like an electronic module issue, hence the binnacle dropping out. If you can list all the fault codes someone should be able to make sense of it.
It could well be the binnacle itself & this is one of the main modules for the car to run.

@Thewilbury...This guy knows his stuff weve sent P38 binnicals/bcm's etc to him from Portugal...

@Thewilbury is your mechanic receptive to suggestions or is he going to throw his toys out of the pram if we/you tell him how to do his job?
Is he familiar with the L322?
hes been doing my Motors for years, hes extremely knowledgeable and is an ex BMW master tech. Hes not working on it constantly to be fair...... he has a look when he gets a few hours to spare during quiet periods of the week.
he would be open to any advice you guys might have.
was over with him this evening...... the engine sounds so strong when cranking but just wont fire up.

Did you try a bit of easy start or brake cleaner?

the binnacle wasnt working at one point and she still fired up. can you just swap it out or does it need coding?
