Will any MOT station be able to MOT my 90 or does it have to go to somewhere that knows something about them?? I swear I remember reading something about certain things on land rovers need testing differently to a normal car (handbrake and diffs being ****ed being one) but can not find the thread or much info on it.

Any help much appreciated guys as I dont want my landy being ****ed by someone who dont know what they are doing.

ideally they need a 4 wheel roller for the brakes.

but if they dont they will either use a slide scale. or remove a prop shaft and place it in diff lock.

My understanding is that any MOT station CAN do it, but it makes sense to take it to one that understands four wheel drive. Aside from the fact that they will be more careful of 4wd issues in doing the test, my experience is that they are also much more reasonable, posibly because they subconsciously benchmark to other 4wds not standard euroboxes.

the main prblem is as i said if they use a 2 wheel roller ot will try to jump off if rampsmdue to the 4 wheel drive amd can damage the diffs, tbox etc.

hence the 4 wheeled roller or slide scale or prop removal

When you ring up ask them can they cater for constant 4x4 . As stated above All should be able too , by either Tapley meter ( decelerometer - but if you got a Cock tester he can still feek the trany when testing the hand brake ) .
Or they should have counter rotating brake rollers ( still have to use the tapley for h/brake tho ) .

Testers are not allowed to remove anything to test a vehicle - even baby seats to check the seatbelt . Just check it the best they can or get the owner to remove before the test starts .

and btw wen i said slide scale thingy i meant what sypher said i jst didnt no the technical term :)
 
Well I have absolutely no idea what a Tapely meter is but I will pop down and see the guy before I book it in to make sure he knows what he is doing. There is loads around here anyway so one of them should be ok.

If we knew where you are some one could probable tell you where a reliable Landy friendly MOT tester is.

They will use a decelerometer of some description but some are not aware how fragile the hand brake system can be.

The hand brake only has to make 16% so when im doing a landy i gently apply the hand brake until i get 17% thats good enough for me,

I have seen some f£%kwits yank on the hand brake trying to lock the wheels :doh:.
 
I have checked the previos MOT which was not done far from where I live so I will take it to them I think as they are apparently very good with 4x4's.

care to explain and perhaps give advice and guidence rather than just telling me im wrong highlight a sentence which im clearly aware of as i wrote it...

if im wrong and am proved wrong by a more knowledgeable member im willing to admit it as i did above.

but people simply saying "your wrong" helps no one

I fail to see how a single axle roller will damage a normal Land Rover transfer box... It is subjected to MUCH worse when you are stuck!

Anything was a VCU (Rangies, Freelanders ect) then i would not test them on a single roller as that is asking for trouble.. but a normal LT230....

Oh, and anyone with a defender read there fuse box recently?

The last tester that yanked the handbrake on whilst using a tapley meter to test the brakes on my P38 recieved an educational explaination as to why he was a Fu****g idiot who should stay away from testing landies.
