Good luck on Wednesday. Just to give you some idea of cost. I went with my mate from school days. We put €1000 euro each into the pot and came back with changed. That covered the ferry crossing Spain to Morocco, food, beer and wine which we bought here in France before we left. Covered all the fuel and tolls in France, and a couple of nights in camp sites and hotels in Morocco. We stopped in a hotel in Spain overnight on the way down and a campsite near the port. And two nights in hotels in Morocco and I think it was three nights in camp sites in Morocco. The rest was wild camping. It was nice to stop in campsites and hotels so we could have hot showers etc. We also stopped a couple of times in Restaurants. The only other cost you would have to add is your ferry crossing Either Dover/Calais or to Spain. Don't forget the pound is stronger than the Euro so you will get a better exchange rate. The only other thing you have to take into consideration is making sure your vehicle is in reasonable shape.

Yeah id like to fit slightly bigger tyres to help the cruse revs at about 70 its getting yo 3000 odd which is abit high for my liking but definately comfortable and AIRCON !! :D

I would hope it is mechanically sound, currently in the middle of rebuilding it. Will need a few test drives before I drive it all the way down to Morocco though!

Getting a disco transfer box soon, and already has bigish tyres, so should be as good to cruise in as a defender will ever be.

My plan is to go proper expedition spec eventually, but it is unlikely to be ready for April. I am going to try to design some bolt in/out metal racking for inside, so if you have any ideas let me know.

I would hope it is mechanically sound, currently in the middle of rebuilding it. Will need a few test drives before I drive it all the way down to Morocco though!

Getting a disco transfer box soon, and already has bigish tyres, so should be as good to cruise in as a defender will ever be.

My plan is to go proper expedition spec eventually, but it is unlikely to be ready for April. I am going to try to design some bolt in/out metal racking for inside, so if you have any ideas let me know.


We just went without it being kitted out. We threw everything in the back and off we went. Half of the stuff got broken. Once you have been you can then you get some idea of what would suit you kitting out wise. One chap, OLDUN had his very well kited out. Single bed, cooking stuff, a good freezer/cooler. He slept in his. We took two of these two second tents which worked out quiet well. Mine is an every day Defender. I just made sure things like Shocks, ball joints hoses etc were all in good order. If you take it steady you should be alright as that's what they were design for. One young chap gave his 90 a bit of a thrashing and ended up breaking both Diff's. The guys in the P38 carefully kitted their's out only to find someone had to let them out each morning. It was a great group and we had a fantastic time.

I'm sure we would be able to get a group to go for 2015. You will find a lot of dreamers will sign up then gradually fissel out as the time gets near.
We had five vehicles in our group which I think is a nice number. Not to big where its difficult to keep an eye and in contact and large enough to assist should the going get hard or a breakdown. The 90 broke both diffs, and had to be towed back to civilization and a garage. One other vehicle stayed with them for the day whilst it was being repaired. The other three went off and we all met up at a rendezvous point.

Ill take the rear 2 rows of seats out though for the trip and hopefully just have a matress in the back :)

I don't really want an MDF or ply solution as I think metal will look better and be harder wearing. Thinking I want shelves up either side with space for water, tools, food etc. Oh and a fridge to keep beer cold.

Need it back on the road first!

why bother with a £2000 roof tent.
See pic below. €49 Euro from Decathlon. A Two second tent. Opens in 2 seconds, close in 10 seconds. This one just fits nicely on my full length roof rack.

Young James made a fold down bed for his 90, think he posted a pic in the 2014 trip page.
He kip'd in it and made his dad sleep outside..

As for spares, we dumping the stuff we took and will take more transmission / drive stuff, diff, drive shafts etc, as that's what seemed to be going when we spent the day at the garage in Zagora with them. All sorts of 4x4's coming in with busted diffs and half shafts.

Mike's tent idea was great, he had a penthouse view from up there, mind you, no good if you need a pee in the middle of the night, long way down in the dark!

I've got some pictures of the storage and sleeping area we made in the back of the P38, worked really well. Only needed letting out once ;)

Can't make 2015 but are doing 2016 for sure.
