I've had winch bumper and winch installed now, just in the process of installing the HD drive flanges which has needed a new hub as after snapping a couple of bolts in one and making quite frankly the worst job of drilling a bolt out.
I had it re-mapped yesterday and the transformation in grunt is quite amazing, but as usual, every job I do exposes yet another part needing replacement, this time it was the mass air flow meter which Land Rover kindly extracted £120.

I was talking to Mansfield 4X4 as they have completed a few trips to Morocco, they suggested just fitting HD front springs and either standard shocks or de-carbon ones, they sell Terrafirma but said that they have had a few failures with them. Been put off by Old Man Emu as too may people say the springs sag, so all things considered I will stick with a fairly standard set up, plus I like the standard ride comfort.

All that is needed is standard everything - I have Land Rover HD springs front and rear - and no lift.

Couldn't agree with you more. After all that is what they were originally designed for and used by the military.
Have a good trip, shall look forward to hearing some news from you about the trip.

Fitted a new radiator today, as the bottom of the old one was getting a bit powdery, well I say fitted, just got to reassemble what seems like the entire front end to bolt the radiator back in, glad i'm changing this now as it exposed a few of those sprung hose clips being in a crap state and its another job I don't really fancy doing on the side of a Spanish motorway.
I am where possible copper slipping every bolt I put back on, so if I need to remove anything it should hopefully un-do without the bolt snappage I have encountered.
I think the issue is, this Defender is a 2005 and like with the brakes, the radiator is the original factory one, and none of the bolts have ever been removed before, so they are protesting.
I am going up to Yorkshire end of November to have my low level roof rack fitted, and hopefully by then I should have all the big oily bits done, and just leaving me to fit a roof console, CB, and then get on with the storage situation.

If we were prepping again, we wouldn't go with the 2" lift, you only sink further down in the sand, and you do sink!!!

Winch is a good extra, we definatley used ours (a lot) and so did oldun. Two of the 5 vehicles had a winch.

Sand will get everywhere, the underside of ours now looks like it's been sandblasted! Copperslip and grease attract sand, better off replacing with SS nuts / bolts if you can, although SS and Ali do seem to cause some corrosive reaction over time.... or they did on my old SII.

Safe trip Ken!

Im going to keep it standard ride height, just adding HD front springs and 4 new shocks as the rear springs are HD already. Yeah, the reaction between SS and alloy can be quite aggressive.
Thinking about the fridge position I think fitting it the buck separate from the cab would be better as I guess it will produce quite a lot of heat when running.

If you have an absorption fridge, make sure it's got plenty of ventilation, if not it'll be no use in Morocco.
I thought ours had failed, it hadn't, it just couldn't get it cool enough. 20 below ambient is ok, but when it's 44 deg C it's not much cop, plus we had built ours into the rear storage area and there was no where for the hot air it created to go, which didn't help.

I've since bought a compressor fridge that i'm going to modify to fit in the same space :)

We positioned ours so that we could get access to it from the front passenger seat whilst driving. Drinking warm / hot water when you're hot and sticky yourself is not very nice. With the added advantage of a cool or cold beer at the end of the day.. That's why i've changed fridge type :)

My current thoughts on storage is that I am going to make the platform in the back flat across both wheel arches, then put the fridge up against the bulkhead so we can get stuff out as we are driving. Still keeping my eye out for a fridge.

I probably won't have a winch as got too many other things I need

A winch is a nice accessory to have but I don't feel it is an essential piece of kit when your in a group. For the amount it would be used it doesn't justify the cost. Much cheaper to just buy Sarah a shovel. And have a good heavy duty kenetic type recovery rope/band. Longer the better.
Something along these lines. 24mm Kinetic snatch rope KERR, 21ft long off road land rover 4x4 | eBay

Ok, does it have to be a kinetic tow rope? As I have a nice regular one. I guess for recovering in the sand it does...

Huh!

Typical two video's of my Disco stuck in the sand!!!!

LOL, blame Rachel, I think she took both video's.
I have just found some more video clips which I had forgotten about. They are mostly of our trip back through the Atlas on roads. I will post them once I have up loaded them onto Youtube

Hi, Haven't got round to up loading any more videos as it takes ages and the ones I have are on normal mountain roads which I don't think are that interesting. I have found one more desert one which I am up loading at the moment which I will post later.

Cool, thanks!

Anybody know what the size of the fuel tank is on a 110? I haven't had it less than 1/4 full yet, so I haven't had to fill it from empty, but I don't think it's that big, maybe 65 litres?
Just pottering around I am getting about 200/230 miles from half a tank.

Just planning storage and was enquiring on how much fuel you guys carry in cans 80-100 litres did I read somewhere?
