Well after 8,500 miles and half way back through Spain the 110 and I had had enough so flew home from Madrid and arranged for the 110 to be transported back and I should see it again in a couple of weeks!!.
That's the one mate, the names were mostly forgettable or unpronounceable for me.
Mike I don't know how you can use the o-d word - I will only accept older!.
Seriously though Mike and James would I have done that willingly - a few miles from Salamanca pale white smoke out of the exhaust resulted in the engine cutting out immediately - luckily the road was deserted and I would dread to think what my reaction would have been say in heavy traffic passing a line of trucks or going over the bridge in Seville. A test showed two pistons gone - just wondered what might have caused it - James perhaps you could have a word with Matt to see what he thinks.
Thats funny, I to had the back end of larry shot blasted, over that black rock you have in one of your pictures, I'm going to fit some very thick metal before going again next year.
We did not get to the beach or tata gorge which is on the map for next time.
One question did you go into any of the silly dune fields which to us were quite difficult to get across? Looking at the pictures it seems it was only you and Ken so I wondered how you got on when you got stuck.
It was just the two 110's on this trip, went across a couple of dune fields and a long stretch of sand down by the border, pretty much without any drama of getting stuck, I found that having lots of power was advantageous and 20 psi in the tires.
We took my tow bar off my 110 out there, as it was clear by day two it was crunching in to rocks, only downside was it was acting as a fuel tank guard, and I have a few scrapes on the thin LR tank guard now. I'd most probably fit a thick fuel tank guard for next time.
The cooper Discoverer STT tires did 5400 miles without any drama and still look in good shape, the anal part of me is not that happy that the white lettering has turned a little yellow though!
