Were you at Chris' wok shop tonight?

Didn't know Kris had started a Chinese Takeaway, Hahahaha, Good name for a Chinese though :p

Just bought loads of shiny aluminium for my storage system, should be good.

Hey Rich if you need any help with anything you can bring your landy round here during the day.

FAIL

But it was on only one thing, apparently the stearing box is leaking too much, and i quote "if you were to go from one lock to the other six or seven times, there would be a splattering on the floor".

In othere words the drop arm was moist with oil, i wouldent personaly have ever expected that to be pulled up, but hey, they passed all that weling and even commented that it was good and that all the mods were done well  so im not gona complain! So its steering box overhall time, got to take the rad out for the 12th or so time this year (no joke), then get the box out for closer inspection.

Were did you take it?

At least the bolts won't be seized on the rad :D

I took it to volkspeed, the only garage ever to have given it a clean pass. In fact, they dident even bring it up this time on the fact that it had its head light blocker stickers still on for Europe. Oakhill failed my RR this year onemmisions, and brakes and pads which were all nearly brand new, the problem was that the rear near side slider was seazed, so i spent £150 on brakes and pads for nothing. i think they thought i was gona pay them to do it, they seamed suprised when i said i was gona do it myself. They did pass it when i gave it back though.

Im not taking the rad out now (i dont think...), its the steering guard thats in the way.

Can't you just clean it up and take it to another MOT place, or is it all in the computer ?

I'm heading down to Kris's soon, and will be there again Friday/Sat/Sun, he's gonna get really sick of me :D

I dont think its in the computer, but im sure they will "find" many other problems so i dont think it makes much difference.

The Data is stored, but not avaliable to a tester other than the one that tested it....

Why? Data protection...

Booger, i might pop down n saturday morning to see how you're getting alone, and practice my man management skills

Good plan, you manage the men, I'll cook brekki, and somehow the work will get done :D

Tonight was good, got the amp in, got the subwoofer in, go the inverter in, and discovered we need a special tool to mount the roof console

Hey Rich,

When this weekend will you be under the landy, and preferably covered with EP40 or oil ?? I need some flashback footage for my trip video, and would like to swing buy on the way to Kris'es to get some :p

The steering box will be out probaly within the hour, so i dont know if there will be that opertunity for genuine. But if you pop by i will cover myself with lube and go under the car and pull out the steering box. Will be better footage is its staged anyway. :D The Jeep is dead too though and i will be fixing that at some point so ill probaly be under that one anyway. Also its new springs should be here today so may be fitting those aswell.

I do have to be at work by 4 tomorrow so need to be the morning or early afternoon.

Andrew, could you email me your phone number? I dont actually have it, and its not in any of your other emails!

The pimping continues...

Middle roof strut removed, and roof console mounted

Split charge easy fit kit fitted, they lied about the easy bit, but most of it is done...

Burgers and bacon rolls cooked and eaten, and much tea and coffee made on the camp stove...

Rich have you done the jeep yet ?

Also to you have a battery terminal that will take a 35mm power cable via a screw fitting ?

Good luck guys, with your epic trip to and across Morocco, dont forget vissie vests, spare bulbs, warning triangles and first aid kits !
Dont know if you need any further info etc,but if your like me,you take it all in from where ever it comes from,so this site might come in usefull its not 4x4's etc but still travellers, which have info on Morocco and Tunisia and others...
It's called MAGBAZ TRAVELS and has hundreds of pics, tips and stories etc from drivers/travellers. :)

Also check out via michelin internet maps/source and print out some copies, dont totally rely on gps...I done Morocco in 1978 in a GOLF mk 1,3 up,kipping sitting in car or in ridge tent, back then, spent £180 each approx, travelled for 7 weeks and seen /drove France,Monaco,S,france,Spanish coast,Morocco into Algeria (heading for Tunisia ) and back,so you guys should tackle it easy !!!
How many vehicles and actual 'bums on seats' going, any updates for us,any room for paying passengers ?Are you towing ?camping 'wild' thats not paying anywhere ! or going to camp sites ?Wish i could come, perhaps someone will plan a trip to Bulgaria/turkey and stay here with me.

Hi Barny,

That Magbaz website looks cool, will check it out later in more detail.

We are pretty full unfortunately If not in space, then definately in weight. We plan to do lots of wild camping, have done loads of prep, so know all the regulations for driving through Europe.

We have done some pretty state of the art GPS route plotting, basically tracing the route we are taking onto the GPS from a paper map. Of course I am fully prepared for it to go wrong, and so we have paper maps Michellin/IGF and others.

Actually my mate is going to live in Bulgaria, I'll get him to look you up :D

This is the nav section of my kit list

Navigation
Michelin Map of Morocco
Morocco Overland (Chris Scott)
Map of EU
Compass x2

Garmin GPS
Nautical GPS
Lap Top + GPS attachment

What time do you want to leave on Friday Andrew? Im yet to find an open camp site, the two i wanted to go to open late March. Its ok ill find at least one from the tourist board. We will have to book befor we get there for friday as we will get there late, and hope they let us in! Also then we can get fresh with the facilities for the rest of the weekend. Saturday night we could possibley do a wild camp, would be a good test of practicality. We will just pull over on a lane up high (ill designate a pint prior), will be a good mock up of what we will face in the Atlas regions.

And....i just bought this....GIN GLIDERS SPRINT PARAGLIDING PARAGLIDER BRAND NEW on eBay (end time 08-Mar-10 21:17:56 GMT)

:D:D:D:D:D

Went with the new one in the end, got a very good deal on it, i visited the seller about a fortnight ago and he got all his gliders out and showed me all his kit and gave me some advice as hes an experienced paraglider pilot. The new one should last much longer if i look after it, i dident want to take the obvious risks with a used one. Just need to get a harness and reserve!
