Ok, email just sent to some of the people who have showed an interest, I'm sure we will collect more later, this could turn into a biggie if everyone goes.

Before I got some time off over xMas it was pretty much like this. Well not quite, but not good either and the weather has not been kind for welding.

Re vehicle prep; make sure your shocks and springs are up to the job.
I boiled and blew my rear shocks on day 1 in the desert, and they were 3 year old Pro Comps.

Hi, another interested party here if no one has any objections. I will need to check with my friend to see if he could make the dates. I live in France and thinking of perhaps meeting at the Port in Spain. I have been trying to follow the threads. Which dates are you aiming to depart from Spain if there is room for another Defender.

Hi,

PM me with your email address and I'll add you to the group, the crossing is probably going to be the 14th or 15th April.

Great thread gents! seems it's ticking along nicely, hope to be in Maroc myself at about the same time. not travelling through on this one unfortunately, more a family holiday in the mountains over the pond from Gib… hope all goes well for you all!

Oh sh1t, that's what I have all round, and they are about 3 years old also.

Talking to some of the old boys on the trip in Oct/Nov, they change their shocks every 3 years as they do it every year.
One guy blew all 4 of his on one trip.

Mine haven't done much mileage, probably less than twenty thousand, And they haven't been worked hard. Think I might just take a set with me, not that difficult to fit.
I did read some negative comments on here somewhere about Pro-comp. But then most comments are negative on here anyway.
The last set of shocks I had, one snapped in half. The shafts on the Pro-comp seemed a lot thicker.

Hi sorry SD for not getting back to you on the route. It would help to know if you plan to use the new motorway in Morocco as far as Agadir. A good starting point off road is Tafraoute. If you start much further north there is a good chance that routes are now full of the black stuff. It would be a very good idea to get Morocco Overland by Chris Scott if you do not have it already. One of the best routes is MA3.

Sounds like a plan, maybe we could try for

Tafraoute

Erg Chebbi

Imlil

This would probably be a bit of a hike, but we would get the mountains in there and the dunes.

Sound ok?

Also I bought the book a little while back its goos, I also got a new Garmin and some paper maps as well, so hopefully I'll be able to find the places.

Hi SD wondered if you got my email which suggests a route similar to yours and could include MA3 an amazing valley run between high hills.
I have a Garman 60csx and use Mapsource on the computer to transfer a route which also has all the little tracks from some freeware from a German chap - can get the full details if you want.

Hi,

Yup think I have it, sorry been putting the car back together today, now done.

Also now starting to get the kist list together ;-)

Hi,How far have we as a group got regarding ferry crossing times, and cost etc. I'm trying to work out roughly how much the trip is going to cost.
I have spoken to my friend and he is on board for the trip.

Not sure on ferry times but boat to Morocco in £200 to £300 range return and as we might cover a bit of ground I expect fuel for around 10 - 12 days in Morocco about £400 plus a bit more for bread and water!

Err, not far, I know I have to do 3000 miles just to get to Morroco and back and I'm assuming 2,000 at least there (5,000 ish) and then the crossing and insurance probably £400 crossing etc and £800 fuel.

I'll try to find the actual ferry costs this week. UK crossing will be no more than £150.00
