hi guys got a few queries with a 110 im looking at buying,
Its got a N reg plate and DVLA says year of manufacture is 1996,
BUT it also says date of first registration to be 2003?, it does'nt have any mention of MOD or anything like that.

It has 120k on the clock and its a 300tdi
with the van type back one with two small windows in each side of which one looks like it slides open,

any help would be much appreciated

Cheers guys
John

Hi,

I have a P reg (which should be 1996/97) but the log book says first registered in 1999.
Would be interested in your ideas

Imported?

if it was imported would it not be a Q plate?

someone's said maybe had private estate use but i would have thought it would have still needed to be registered?

just spoke to my local-ish landy engineering place and they think its most likley ex mod, i did think about the dealer shunt but wasn't too sure,

Hmmm, well im going to see it tomorrow anyway so hopefully all the numbers will be right! and its as good as the guy says!

cheers for all the replys Guys

Lots of possibilities really, including those that have already been suggested. My money is on something along the lines of airport use (runway patrol specific) or perhaps dock use? If a company has no intention of it being used on the highways then there is technically no need for it to be registered depending on how they sourced it originally.

If it was ex-mod there would be certain tell tale signs like split doors / heavy duty chassis / convoy lights etc. That said, it could also have been more of a civi vehicle than a combat vehicle.

Have you got any photos?

Not necessarily Tom. It could have been "white fleet"

John
Any plates on the drivers side seat box ? That could shew Ex MOD

Could've been a factory vehicle for testing and checking processes or used for advertising at the Badminton Horse trials/golf tournaments.

Hi guys, no pics as yet but im going to see(and hopefully buy it) tomorrow,
Tom: one of my TA mates suggested airport and Civi but i have no idea!
Gemini: whats "white Fleet"? what do you mean by "plates"? info plates or like reinforcing plates? also it has a center seat... Il get a look and post pics tomorrow.

oh and spoke to insurance to get a cover note and a proper quote and both times they asked if it was an import but then managed to "find it" for the years quote though Ive got to call back between office hours to determine if the bench seats will make a difference to the quote as the department that has that info finish at 5! If it's imported it will have something like "was registered overseas - declared manufactured 2001" on the front of the v5 log book in section 3 special notes on the front.

Part number stickers often have their on build date on them, for parts like wiring looms, under seats and rear of trim panels.

You might have to do some homework with the archives ...

Land Rover Chassis and VIN Plates - Land Rover Chassis ID's & VIn

Model Year
Land Rover build vehicles to Model Years rather than calendar years. The Model Year starts approximately June-July and runs through to roughly the same time the following year.

Model Year changes usually saw the introduction of minor feature changes and upgrades, with major interior trim and paint option updates occurring every 2 years.

Build Date
Each vehicle has a build date which represents the day that the body and chassis were joined on the production line.
This is directly related to the VIN.

VIN
The vehicles VIN is the most useful identifier for most purposes.

Changes in parts specifications or design were sometimes made during the course of a model year production run, so the changes are always identified by the VIN at which the change was implemented.

The VIN is also the most reliable way to check the Model Year of a vehicle.

Microcat has a VIN database, but I don't have that to hand ...
maybe someone can help ...

I used have a yank import all said on v5 was date menufacture and date registered with 5 or so year difference.

Mine was imported and has "was registered overseas - declared manufactured 2001" but mine came from Japan and is uk spec once you reprogram it, change the aerial, fobs and fit/enable the volumetric sensor. Built in Solihull too.

ok guys, i got the landy, now it is Ex militery, 110 county,
yearly recipts and mot's + all recipts for the bits its needed over the years...

chassis looks good body has one patch that ive found which needs cleaning up as its been a half job, ie. never painted or waterproofed in the drivers seat box, and one ho;e to be repaired in the passenger footwell, ive also just discovered it needs a sump too! drove it a total of 330mile this weekend and it never skipped a beat but after my 2hr journey this morning i heard a irregular "knock" from underneath as it was idling, seems to be coming from the gearbox/transfer box area, then i noticed ther was a hole at the front of the gearbox and my heart sunk! however from looking at the book (haynes) it seems to be a flywheel breather? im gussing the oil surrounding the front of the gearbox is from the oil creeping back from the flaking sump as i was driving this morning?... however, as i need the landy for a drive to Ullapool on monday! i think its best if i change all the oil (Gear/transfer/engine and possibly axle) before i go aswell as the sump providing i can get one! cant seem to find them on the net!
i dont want to drive it now seeing all the oils nearly gone, and its a bit worrying with my impending 400 mile round trip!

can anyone shed any light on the knock?

is there supposed to be some oil come out of the flywheel breather?

anyone know of any landy garages IN Aberdeen? ive been trying greenbank 4x4 all day and had no answer??

anything else i should be looking for fault wise?

cheers guys!

If its imported then DVLA requires a proof of date of manufacture from LR and then they issue a plate that is relevant to the date it was made, not first sold.
