"its only warranted for 12 months guv", its already been back to them in the first month and since taking it out doesn't look like it had the mods done to it either, its not a question of knowing best its about either saving it or breaking it, which if this doesn't work is exactly what will happen to it

Pretty poor service then. Maybe you should name and shame them. Think trying to fit a manual is a waste of time. But it's your car do as you will.

park was the choice so the key can be extracted and to make life simple, i don't see a problem in driving it whilst it thinks it in park

No idea on the L322. Might be used for something or maybe not. Either way, seems more elegant to make it mean something. Maybe take a feed off the handbrake switch.

update so far, gearbox transferbox gear linkage and front prop done, stumped on transfer gearbox motor, as its the bmw transfer box and i think the motor was used on the later l322's but cant find the connection details for the newer motor or if the ecu works the same way, anyone out there have a clue?

well drove it round the yard today no faults on display seems to work fine just need to tidy it up a bit, i now have the only l322 range rover manual, unless anyone knows other wise

Where there's a will ...

Well done.

You can get a gearbox gaiter for a few quid off the Bay. Not sure which car would fit best. Bit of Rust-Remedy first, maybe!

Any video footage? It would be interesting to see this downgrade in action :)

There are quite few people that will make gearlever & handbrake gaiters to measure in leather, I have had a gear lever gaiter made for the MR2 and a hand brake one for the P38 project

Oddly enough, that slot doesn't look far off the p38 handbrake gaiter dimensions.
