Not sure, but our biggest problem is abuse of the system.
Not sure how the abuse is happening but there are ways to minimise this using web forms. For example if a member has to log into LandyZone, then you have a trace. If you are using a web form, you can check that it is a human (e.g. REcaptcha) and also capture details that can identify if it is a genuine request (e.g. IP address). As I say, I am not certain of your process but am happy to help if needed.

You work in computers? The abuse is a practical one. People get stuck/breakdown and call us instead of being careful. Webforms ain't gonna help at all.:D

Are you trying to sell us something we don't need?

I did work in information management but am now retired, so was thinking how to make the process smoother.
Hmm... can't think how to minimise the abuse you mention.
I guess with the best will in the world, vehicles do breakdown but also heavy vehicles when they get stuck do sometimes need help. I for one would be happy to help

Clarification, please? Is that an offer of free help? Or an advertisement of your paid services?

If the latter, I think you should be in the pro mechanics thread, which is elsewhere on the forum.

Another update for mine to say I also now have Gap IID

Edit: My previous request for update to include the Diesel nanocom module hasn't be actioned so far :(

How To Get Yourself On The Map
We need:-
  • An approximate location
So we have you in a rough location eg "Luton" or if an area of a city say "Docklands"
  • Diagnostic kit
if you have it and models it covers eg. Hawkeye unlocked discovery TD5, Generic code reader.
  • Towing,Recovery,Trailer
Everything from a tow rope to a full recovery vehicle counts.
  • Tools
Basic hand tools up to a fully equipped workshop- it all counts.
  • parts availability
Local knowledge of fair suppliers etc
  • a radius you can help
    (default radius 20 miles)
  • You details
as above post on this thread
  • PM Mobile number
to The Mad Hat Man and blue beasty and we will send a test text to make sure it works- please respond.

Mobile and tablet access to map
By far the best way is to use google maps application this should be available to apple devices via app and android devices if not already installed via "play Store"

Android Google Maps Click Here

On android the map link should open up popup to select google maps, if this does not occur then you will need to have a google account and visit page via browser and add to "my places " it will then appear in map app "my places".

On the iPad
you first have to download the Google Earth application, and then you can download the one for Google Maps.

Google Earth App

Apple ITunes Google Maps Click Here
When you zoom in to Google Earth, the locations then appear on some kind of hybrid between Earth and maps.
Confusing at first, but easy to get used to (kindly figured out and tested by Oldseadog as I do not own an ipad)

Map Problems / Browser issues
  • No placement markers on map before clicking on a name- try another browser as Opera Browser doesn't like the place marks for some reason.
  • Radius not showing and cross logo-google not rendering radius or browser incompatibility.
  • Ipad/Safari Brower radius issues and it is a known bug, google need to fix or try another browser or preferably Google Maps App.
  • Opera no Radius
  • Firefox if you can't see radius or updated listings-clear "history/cookies " try again
  • We know that tapatalk currently does not work nicely with map
Failing that add a post on this thread detailing Browser used and Operating System and Issue you have.

Convert to SatNav
To create a sat nav file you need to click kml under Map description in left hand column and save, then go to
POI EDITOR - How To : Convert Google 'My Maps' KML Placemarks

Details will be added to map and then archived

Below is a sample of google maps and if you use navigation on google maps app- it will take you to place marker where someone is approximately.

Take care mate. Hold on to those doors :)

Hi and many thanks all for the replies.
I like my hippo, (its a HSE) but I still miss my old Disco. In my heart, I would love a Japanese market one in auto that's been re-imported here again.. I cannot get under and blaze away with my little used MIG no more.
I will admit to buying far too many motor scooters but had to buy a not-cheap bike lift so can sit on a comfy chair and fiddle with VESPAS (and that must result in rude replies Shirley)
To be honest, I got a MOBY scooter In the back of my Hippo Incase It breaks down - LOL
So fingers crossed eh..
Take care all, and may I wish you all a happy, warm, well fed Merry Christmas/ and or seasonal greetings of your choice.
Ian.
