Made the decision guys having gas fitted in the old girl,will take me about 2 years to recover the cost but I intend to keep her a long time all being well thats long as nothing major goes on her, having it done with Simon at UKlpg, I'llpost again when it's done to report my finding.

i use autogas south Elmsall doncaster simon hes the best there is. on price and after service you cant get better.theres no messing around just straight to the point and he wownt sell you something you dont need. top bloke. http://www.lpgc.co.uk/
 
I have used LPG on all my vehicles in Australia for the past 20 years and all the Taxis were on gas as well and the price was about half the price of unleaded fuel BUT last year the government realised it was missing out and put a tax on it to bring it up to nearly the same price as petrol.
So if the goverment here decide to do the same thing its going to take more than 2 yrs to recover your cost.
 
Loads of vehicles in Holland have been converted to LPG. The extra cost of the special spark plugs and the valve train lubrication that might be necessary makes maintenance just that little bit more expensive than you might expect. Sludge forming inside the engine can also be a problem. But as mentioned above the biggest cost you will ever have is a change in government policy.

There is a whole lot of noise about banning not only diesel engined vehicles from certain cities in Holland but also petrol engined vehicles too. Anything that is older than 15 years old is likely to be banned from Utrecht quite soon (fortunately the place is an effing dump so nobody in their right mind would want to go there anyway). Still the problem remains - for some reason or other Holland is one of those places where the rest of the world seems to think "oh it works really well over there". This is total bollocks. If I were you I'd save the costs of an LPG conversion and wait and see what policy changes are going to be imposed.

The Rover V8 works very well with LPG. No flash lube required as it has hardened valve seats (unlike the later Jag V8). Sludge in the engine? LPG should actually keep your oil cleaner than running unleaded. Regular oil & plug changes should be done whether LPG or not & no need for fancy plugs. Now, slipped liners.....there's your biggest issue!

Engine runs and pulls better than petrol with the increase in mpg and power very noticeable when you re time the ignition for the higher octane lpg it's 104 and not the usual 95

Mine pulls much better on LPG. I upgraded my engine to higher compression when i put a top hat block in which works fantastically with higher octane LPG & better MPG than before (20mpg on a good run on LPG). Change my oil every 6k miles & oil is always clean on changing.
 
if they tax lpg would that mean the same tax on bottled gas then. no they wouldnt. any way im running mine on lpg and its great like running a 2L merc great stuff

Thanks for advice, she had a new engine at 70 k now done 144k head gasket done at dealer before I collected so hopefully won'thave those problems to worry about , but fingers crossed .

Thanks Pete, great to hear that , iam hoping as one member has said that the government dosnt decide to cash in on another way to fleece us with higher tax on lpg, I've only had good reports about lpg so far .
 
Thanks for advice, she had a new engine at 70 k now done 144k head gasket done at dealer before I collected so hopefully won'thave those problems to worry about , but fingers crossed .

Mine had a new engine at 55k. Then failed again at 140k (slipped liner) so had a top hat engine rebuild.
 
Lpg only goes up in the winter really ive heard that its pric is linked to heating oil and heating gas hence the seasonal rise. As for simon at lpgc I cant fault the guy he fixed mine in December last year only did what was required in the rain as well as his workshop was full and couldn't get my car in there. Hows yours running Martyn after you did the head gaskets?? im neading new cats on mine now cos they are fubared any recommendations?

Mine's been running fine since the helicoils & HG change thanks . Done around 3k miles since & all good. Treated it to some Magnecore leads last month for good behaviour. :D If my cats needed replacing i'd probably go for the SS sports cats, they arn't cheap though.

That's good needs martyn now if I can only find time to fit my LPG kit I can start saving some cash on petrol

That dosnt Instill me with much confidence martyr lol ,that with its history I would be future proof guess I've got the wrong car for that?Is it expensive for a top hat engine ? I might even have one but don't know how to tell , guess it's a case of fit lpg and hope for the best lol

It gets better! Since the 3rd engine (top hat) mine has also gone through 2 head gaskets in the first 10 months.
Check out Turner Engineering or V8 Developments for prices. I got mine in bits so saved a fair bit & it probably cost me around 4k all in.

What sun? Bloody raining here. I figure if my liners ain't slipped by now they ain't gonna slip iv got 125k on the engine iv pretty much rebuilt the car everything that goes wrong has or iv replaced it b4 it did.

So just LPG to go on, been busy with a mate today fixing his gaylander td4 auto he swopped out all 9 solenoids to fix his gearbox problems, job done
